CAI cleaning: before and after+filter size question
I'm afraid I do not have the pics now, but I finally took my CAI filter off to clean and holy hell was it atrociously dirty. I will post the pics as soon as I am able but I have a question in the meantime: what are the dimensions of your guys' air filters on the CAI? I can't get mine to fit without some edge or part of it rubbing against the plastic fenderwell and it worries me. And I'm not certain if it was that way before I took it off to clean it.

I tried to readjust it...no such luck. It is either against the tire fenderwell or against the front fender. My filter is about 5" tall, 3" wide at the pipe diameter and 4.75" base width.

I have the same issue with the filter that I've got. There seems to be no way to adjust it so that its not rubbing against something

Mine pushes the bumper out just a tad, but that could be because the fender liner is off when I'm using the CAI

Here is what mine looks like. It rubs along the inside of the bumper.

Ah see the curve of your last piece of tubing has a sharper angle than mine. The edge of the top of the filter is what rubs on mine. Your filter looks mighty pinkish...

finally a size. What does everyone else propose? Has anyone found a specific brand of filter and CAI type that is preferable?

Bump. Is there any site that sizes filters for the car or is it a matter that the filter size doesn't matter, only the piping? I think I'm about due for a new filter and I am wondering these things as I will be spending money that I do not have so much of...

Just get a spectre filter from autozone. Its a K&N just with the name changed (generic). It will run you only like 22$. If they have a 2.5 inlet that is probably what you need for your CAI, otherwise you can just get a 3" like I did and just tighten the clamp until it squeezes on the tube. Then it's just a matter of playing around til you can get it down in the fender.

for clearence on how u have yours set up is maybe dremel cut it back (the piping i mean where the filter connects) about a half inch or so. i had mine set up differently on my first alero with only the one piece of piping from autozone and it didnt rub at all...never did take pics of it tho sorry. when i get around to it on this alero i am gona try a different, nicer set-up.

Never thought of dremeling the piping...nice now. Now I have to get a dremel lol. I'm sure having it fully cleared is better for performance and airflow though. Maybe I'll just look for some new piping.
