Hid Lights

since i blew some leds i had put in my map cubby hole, i need to order new ones. and if i'm ordering new ones(from oznium) i figured i should also order some brighter headlights. does it take alot to change your standard headlights to the xenon type (Hid, i guess) and what size do 2003 2dr alero 's use?

i figure its just a pull out and drop in type of job, but my background on cars is limited to only what i've done on this one (just sound stuff). yeah, i'm dumb.

the xenon are NOT true H.I.D.

they are the best/cheapest alternative... just a bulb swap. H.I.D is a full kit, and has to be wired in.

9006 is the bulb size, form us right though, they aren't nearly as bright as the true HID kit. You can pick one of those up for somewhere in the neighborhood of 370 or so, depending on how well you look. It is a bit more difficult to install though. The replacement bulbs just plug in, but the HID replacement is a little bit of a larger project.

*Edit* The HID ones look badass and are worth the hassle.

ok, well that helps. then what is hid, and does anyone have pics? but for me, now... xenon will be good enough.

expect for ur harnesses to burn if you go any wattage higher than stock....55w is stock

and you'll need a set of 9004 and a set of 9006 (one for dims, one for brights), and yea, anything over 55w will give you problems you really dont want to deal with.

My bulbs are supposed to give the equivalent of about 85w of output and I have never really had any problems.

hid stands for high intensity discharge and is what is used in most luxury cars nowadays the ones with super bright and white lights you see on beamers and benz and caddy's etc use HIDs it's a totally different lighting system that uses different bulbs and obviously diff balasts if you do a search ppl on here have pics of them on their cars

haha yea, my mistake the hi beams are 9005 and the lows are 9006.

i could have sworn i bought 9004's... oh well.

"Equivalent to 85W" means that the bulbs' output at 55W (measured in lumens) is the same as a stock bulb would be if it took 85W. The Xenon bulbs are more efficient, so the same wattage goes further. Your safest bet is the Sylvania Silverstars. I have used them in my last 3 vehicles (Isuzu, Chrysler, Chevy) and have never had a problem. They are also certified 50 state legal in terms of color.
