You people need to calm down. There are more than a few of us who could benefit from this, because we DO road race at various tracks. When I hit the speed limiter on the back stretch where I race, it's before my braking point, which means I just lost time. Oh, and by the way, I learned road racing by doing driving schools and open lapping days with professional instructors.

Well said.

Assuming you have tires designed to support the increased speed ceiling, a stock 3400-powered Alero will lose the aerodynamic fight somewhere around 127MPH.

Speaking from experience???

In actuality, 3.4 is right when he recommends that everyone calm down. Quite a few of you gave narrow-minded opinions on what YOU THINK he wants to do this for, but never factored in the other reasons that would make this mod an "advantage" instead of just dangerous. 3.4 mentioned road racing. I sure could use this in those "no man's land" like hurst said. From your way of thinking, it's like you're saying that everyone that has purchased an ASE chip is a speednut just waiting to crash. Hurst post didn't say "I need to be able to go 120 so i can blow pass Hondas on the interstate". But that's how you interpretted it, which is a very pessimistic view to have for a person you don't know.

AMEN!...I WOULD TOO! Though I DO have a question..for those who HAVE done the VSS override mod..what's the FASTEST the Alero will do? Does it just end up being drag limited? (i know the speedometer doesnt work while using the mod but get some1 w/ a car that can hit 150+ and have them tail you)

I've never done it myself but of course it would be drag limited, like pretty much any car. My guess is ~135-140 for the 2.4/ECOTEC and 140-145 maybe for the V6... but that's speculation because the V6 has a lower power band so it may be further away from it's peak HP than the 4 cylinders are when approaching top speed.
In short, 135-140mph would be the top speed of an Alero...

 ...sigh...I wish the Alero would just be able to go 140+ factory! GRR! or at least 125ish like the GAGT does (SAME bunnyIN MOTOR!)

d00d, going that fast is so nuts.
what if there is a nail in the road or a piece of glass you dont see and you have a blowout cuz your tires or so damn hot.
That would be damn scary. Thats not worth it to me, My Alero has only been above 65mph once, that was to test where the limiter was, and ill never do it gain.

The alero can really go 127mph stock. Thats pretty good. Most cars can't hit that if they didn't have limiters that are in the same class as the Alero.

Wow you really live life on the edge.
It's true though, at 86mph your tires light the road on fire and you go back to the future.

LOL. Above 65? I'm a fairly law-abiding citizen, but I'll admit to testing the limiter once or twice. In my younger, stupider days, of course. Aleros run real good around 80mph, too. At least mine does. I think that's the speed limit around here.
Wait... Steve, you live in Detroit, and you've never been above 65? The limit's 70 on most of the highways once you get out of town. Hell, where 696 starts here, most people go 75 and 80.

^^LMAO...
Honestly I've tested the speed limiter once or twice down here.. we have some really nice 6 and 8 laned Highways that are deserted on the week nights! But, even in regular traffic down here you usually cruise at like 80-90mph! And YES the Alero loves that speed range.. I get my best gas mileage at like 80-85mph!!!

Nope, it doesnt work... it's not a pretty hack but it works if you're desperate to go fly faster than 108mph and into the FUTURE

^^Only if the future includes a loud boom, flames, lot of screaming, and then suddenly going black PERMANENTLY.
