I took your advice and went to the muffler shop....
...and they said my resonator is going bad and that my muffler part would cost $500 alone!?!?
recently i got two new 02 sensors and a new catalyst convertor but my car is still acting a little weird (sometimes its hard to accelerate right after i start it, i heard a pop when i started it once yesterday, and a rough idle)
im not even sure what the heck a resonator is. i hear people on here say they got a catback exhaust with flowmaster/magnaflow or whatever. does the catback include the resonator and muffler? i really want to get somethin put on soon, but something better than stock. i got a long trip to VA coming up and i dont big problems like my car breaking down on the road.
can somebody just give me a simple breakdown or list of what i need or what i should ask for when i go to ANOTHER muffler shop. part by part PLEASE!!
its a 2.4L, 2000

Sounds like they are trying to screw you, unless that was the price for a full exhaust replacement Cats and everything then it might be pretty close because Cats are pricey.

If you have that kind of money, buy a Flowmaster or Magnaflow and ask for a custom exhaust, but go to a differnt shop.
The res is in front of your muffler. It's baffeled to give the car a tone. With a chambered muffler, you don't need it

I got myself a magnaflow (finally) I love the way it sounds. I didn't do a full exhaust, just got the muffler and tip. Looks good.

The Magnaflow and Super 40 are 2 totally different mufflers. The Magnaflow is a straight-thru, and the Super 40, which is a Flowmaster, is chambered. Flowmaster also just came out with the Super 44, which claims to have a louder interior sound than the 40's.
Sadly, unless you can weld, you'll have to have it installed. You could clamp it on, but the right way is to weld it.
The stock one will have to be cut off

Well, you can slot the pipes and use a band/strap type of clamp on it. I've done that plenty of times because then it can be easily removed. Some cars have it like this from the factory (like the Corvette C6 / Cadillac XLR).

Dynomax mufflers are a good quality muffler. The stainless ones are obviously more expensive.
