gas mileage difference
I was just curious if anyone knows how big of a difference in gas mileage there is between an Alero with the 3400 and a Buick Park Avenue with the 3800? Any major differences in the power? I'm guessing there won't be too much of a difference, seeing as how they are both 90 degree V6's, but even so, if anybody actually knows the difference, I would appreciate your knowledge!

Check out this gov't site, it'll give you a rough estimate your looking for. Plus you can look up other cars you got mpg questions about.

Thanks for the info. That's what I was more or less thinking, since both motors are GM V6's, but sometimes it can be a huge difference in the MPG's. Also, those with the 3400 motor, where is your tachometer when you go through those first few gears? I only ask, because my Alero hits about 3100 RPM, where as my dad's car, a Buick with a 3800 only hits about 2500, at the most. My cousin has a Pontiac Montana van with the 3400 motor, and it changes gears somewhere around 2500 RPM also. Any info about this?

sorry to give the obvious answer Chad, but that has a lot to do with how much throttle you give, more throttle=higher shifter point
Also i went to that calculator site, and i don't know about anyone else, but i get around 34-36 to the gallon usually if i keep it at 65 (yes with the LA1). not really sure how i do it, but it might have something to do with the CAI and pacesetter Cat-back i've put on it

those shift points aren't the engine, its the transmission, and where the points are programmed into the pcm.
with "hptuners" you can change those, if you wanted to.

Wow, I like those numbers. I can baby mine and still get only 28.5 MPG. I would gladly do those mods for the improved mileage.
