Headunit woes

For reasons i can't explain, my headunit died. (rca's managed to unground themselves, even though they are still connected to the circuit board correctly)

so i guess i'm shopping now. which sucks.

i'm not estatic about how the new pioneer models look, but i'm sure they'll grow on me. (unless someone has a better recommendation) I need 3 preamp outs, and direct ipod control. so.. any recommendations?

I can't really see what your paying $60 for, between.

my last h.u was around 300, and i liked it... but at the end of the day, its still only going to play music and possible radio for me. So i'd like to keep it as cheap as possible. (i don't have a problem spending that again, its w/in my budget, but unless someone gives me a REALLY good reason to, i'll probably end up going with the 4000, above)

so, what have you?
EDIT: I suppose i should also ask... how is http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-CDIU50.../dp/B000NPFQ24
different from just your standard USB to Ipod cable???
