i just got new tires for the alero 245/40/18 and when i lower the car the rear tires rub a bit

can i lean in the rear tires to clear the wheel whells and how much is ok to do?

derek_ski99 04-10-2006 07:49 PM

perhaps you'll need some spacers

with a 245 you really should have gone like 35 series rubber..245/35 18

SweetNLow 04-10-2006 07:56 PM

derek he has airbags........

only thing u might be able to do is get a rim that is more narrow. i run 18x8 and i cant lower the car all the way and drive....... i rub on my fenderwells also

derek_ski99 04-10-2006 10:04 PM

ahh i forgot..my bad

pimpalero2003 04-11-2006 11:20 AM

Sidewall???? You mean WWIIIDDDEEE tires??? :P

derek_ski99 04-11-2006 03:37 PM

noo, a 245/40 18 has considerable more sidewall as well as width. 40 only implies 40% of the width makes up the sidewall. soo 225 times .40 is less than 245 times .40.

and this added sidewall means a taller tire, which explains why he cant drop the car lower

SweetNLow 04-11-2006 04:07 PM

ya but see hes talkin bout being able to drive the car with the bags extremely low it sounds like.

no matter how thin a tire u put on i think its gonna rub depending on the width of the rim.

like i said i have 8inch wide rims and i cant drive tuckin tire in the back without rubbing

derek_ski99 04-11-2006 04:38 PM

from what i've heard its not the best idea to drive around riding low anyway..

I cant slam the ho either without rubbing because of the fender well. Just have to raise it up a bit and rollout. :thumb:

i never noticed u were on air befor nosweat. what kinda bags u got?

slowandlow 04-12-2006 12:21 AM

actuley the passangerside is not aligned right i took it to a body shop and they said they can pull the lip a bit the reason i went with the 245 is so the tire covers up the lip of the rim i am thinking of getting them for the front but i would have to rool the lip of the front fender.

i have easy street bags with a 5 gallon tank and 2 viar 450 compressors the digital air mgment and 1/2 up and 3/8 down
i installed it all my self and the hardest part is getting rid of the leaks i lose about 1 psi an hour on all my bags due i am not good at pipe fittings

sound_xtreme 04-13-2006 12:03 AM

you spray it all down? ptc fittings and everything? be generous with the poop, i used dish soap.

what did u use to seal the valves and fittings? teflon tape or the wet sealant stuff?

i only have one leak in one rear back but i havent tried to locate it yet

slowandlow 04-13-2006 01:40 AM

i know where the leaks are but i have about 6 so i have to rip all the valves off and i just havent found the warm weather to do it. i used tape and this is my first atempt at using tape and pope thread fittings.
no sweat do you have 245 on the front and how dues that work ? are they inside the fender wells?

sound_xtreme 04-13-2006 02:02 AM

thread sealant works better than thread tape sealant, but I actually had really good results with the tape.
