the making of my new tail lights

I figured that it cant be that hard to make led tail light so first I came up with a design then I grabbed a old pair of lights and boom a

sleepyalero 07-07-2013 06:53 PM

Wow very good job!!! But... I dont like how you did the brake light for the tails. I hope you dont get in an accident.

Truth 07-07-2013 09:08 PM

Yes great job, what do the reverse lights look like?

sleepyalero 07-07-2013 09:10 PM

Look stock, just tinted over.

tw0123 07-07-2013 10:10 PM

those look pretty wicked man!! just in my own personal opinion, I would have reversed the rings... had the small ring as the running light and the larger outer ring as the brakes... make it as visible and distinct as possible... gonna have to see them in person soon :)

fisdad 07-07-2013 10:15 PM

Those look sweet! I would have made the rings more spread out for better definition. Or two rings of brakes and one running. I'm paranoid about getting rear ended.

jeffrey1990 07-07-2013 10:54 PM

the reverse are just the plain bulbs and you can't see the third break light but I but I fix that and its easy to see the breaks ill take a good picture of breaks tomorrow

Did I mention my paranoia? I had mine made special so that all 4 lot up as brakes just in case.

what kind of breaks, lunch breaks? glass breakage? :awesome:

jawa 07-09-2013 04:23 PM

How did u get them apart and did u reuse the stock covers

TDavis 07-09-2013 04:25 PM

They don't look THAT bad but something about the part of the tail light that is connected to the trunk just looks empty with one set of rings near the inside.

I know what u mean after I was done I started thinking what if I used 12 rings instead of 8.

and I cut them apart with a dremal and yes I did re use the lens

it really wasn't that hard to make just time consuming, the led strips cost the most

jeffrey1990 07-09-2013 05:31 PM

and of course there's no running lights in the day so its easy to see the "lunch breaks" when there applied in the day. but you really gotta see them in person too get a good look at them if you've ever bought leds from superbrightled.com you'll know what im saying. although it would be cool to have the running lights dim then brighten up when the breaks are hit how ever that's done.

jawa 07-09-2013 05:46 PM

so did the lights sit further in because they were cut?

jawa 07-09-2013 05:47 PM

and whats up with the cloths pins

I think they were holding the rubber lining to the lens.

jeffrey1990 07-09-2013 07:19 PM

yes they was holdin the rubber to the lens and they sit pretty much stock because of the rubber on the lens

sleepyalero 07-09-2013 07:27 PM

I still give props for doing this, just not a fan of the way you went with them. And vht wears off after awhile just fyi, i had to redo mine quite often when i had tinted tails, you should look into a clear coat/black paint mix for the tails. They will be really shiny and wont fade.

jeffrey1990 07-09-2013 08:06 PM

is there a store that sells that or a brand you recommend, I did clear coat them to - three times..... plus im most likely buying a new car within a year

sleepyalero 07-09-2013 08:26 PM

You can mix it yourself, or find a paint shop that will do it.
