On several occasions I've been doing work in my car and I need the driver's door open, and I also wanna listen to the car stereo but I DON'T wanna listen to that damn 'bing, bing, bing' the whole time. Any easy way around this? (I couldn't find any previous posts on this chime).

Does it still chime on ACC instead of ON?

Cyber Knight 03-15-2004 03:44 PM

Yep, it chimes no matter to what position the key is turned, even 'OFF'.

why not rig something to hold down the door sensor?

aka duct tape

I didn't even notice a door pin, otherwise it would have reminded me of when I used to jam a tennis ball in there like I used to on my Mustang. Thanks for jogging my memory! The easiest solutions are sometimes the best.

I don't know about your ignition, but I can pull the key out of mine. I just turn it to ACC and pull the key out a bit until it stops dinging.

^^ You're not supposed to be able to do that. It's actually a DOT reg.

I think I can do that with mine too. On my old car I could actually just take the key all the way out no matter what position it was in. Yep, that thing was a POS.

I took a quick look for a door pin and couldn't see anything. Where is this sensor/switch located?

Aleromaster 03-16-2004 01:01 PM

I think it inside the door

I had an 87 Olds Delta 88 with the 3800 engine. damn i miss that thing, but before i got into a wreak with it i was driving on the highway doing about 70 and hit a small bump in the road. the keys went BOOP out of the ignition. at the end of her life cycle i didnt even need the key anymore. man i miss that thing! :wah:

Just turn the key to ON and turn off all accecories (ie. heater fan windshield wipers etc) and engage y0our parking (e) brake. This won't use any more power than ACC and you don't get that annoying chime. :D

Naich 03-26-2004 01:52 PM

just get an aftermarket head unit.... and don't relocate the stock on. Bam, no more chimes.

I just found out my key comes right out in any position (haven't tried while driving tho). I know the ignition is a little worn but what's happening here?

brsexton 04-03-2004 08:10 AM

Your ignition switch or Key needs to be replaced. My mom had a 98 Malibu that done the samething, and they had to replace the whole switch. Also a worn key can cause this to happen also. Try going to a GM dealer and having a new key made from your VIN and not a copy of your old key.
