GM S/C part #12498660
manual tranny calibration # is 88961331, auto is 88961332 |
the reflash will cost you an extra $80-$100 for the dealer to do it.
So total cost for the whole setup is under $2500 if you install it. |
|
You should mention that this will only work on the '00 and up 2.4L equipped Aleros. The '99 won't work with it properly; the starter is bigger and gets in the way of the supercharger, some have an EGR valve that the newer years don't have and the PCM is different meaning the flash won't work on it. It also will not work on the ECOTEC engine or the 3400 V6, in case anyone was wondering.
|
actually most of the 99's have the smaller starter and no egr. However they can not be reflashed, so you just need to do your own fuel mods to compensate for the added air.
this post from j-body.org is a good resource for any pre 2k cars wanting to go the gm s/c route. http://www.j-body.org/forums/read.ph...05987&t=105987 |
So does anybody actually have it installed? Is there a noticeable difference? I am looking to get one, just would hate to get all said and done and have it not make a difference.
|
NoSweat83 has one but he hasn't been on forever...... looks damn nice too
|
i just purchased one, and will be installing it this coming summer.
i have the 2.7" pulley, so i'll let you know how it works out. |
www.gmpartsdirect.com
GM PART # 12498660 GM LIST: $1,929.00 OUR PRICE: $1,404.31 Just some quick info. |
hey on the one above what else would you do to get even more horse power out of it would the pully size matter
|
Quote:
Yes the pully size matters. Im not sure what all the specs are but I know the smaller pully is better depending on the application. |
stock PSI is 4-5psi
max psi is 8-10psi after that very ineffiecent. basically you can go down one or two pully size i think it is a 2.7 or 2.6 but that is it |
I wanna know what numbers were lookin at here tho, cuz it says a good 190 reliable hp, thats like only 40 more hp, ur better off boostin it

there's a lot more information about this supercharger on www.j-body.org. the main idea behind the gmpp supercharger is that it is RELIABLE. this means you aren't going to need to change out your internals before installing it. it also means that gm will service the part. if you go turbo, you may have to change the internals to handle the boost. as far as numbers, it depends entirely on what supporting mods you have. i've heard numbers from 205 HP to 220 HP. most people don't JUST install the supercharger. most upgrade the exhaust, maybe cams, intake.... |
also.. what's the increase in torque with the supercharger?
|
Quote:
Yes it basically makes your alero comparable to cobalt ss and it looks nice. I will have to repost pics. |
its a good idea i think. reliable power and that is more then enough power. aleros are pretty quick already.
|
hell of a deal even at 40hp gain, without the labor install, thats only $37 for 1hp, which is a steal compared to some mods where that can be $100+ per 1hp for some mods
|
i paid more then that to bag out my alero. this is a sweet set up
|
plus, there's a guy on j-body.org that will reflash your ecu with a better tune than the gm one. he also removes the speed limiter and throws in a few other goodies. all for 180 shipped.
|
do they make a super charger or turbo for the 2.2?
|
I think rsm has a supercharger for the 2.2, but for that u can get a turbo for it. I understand the gm supercharger its made to be reliable for the stock setup, Im just a fan of turbos and 2fst4u has a sick set up same with that dude with the 12 second grand am.

Yes. Get a hold of GM parts direct or GM performance parts. |
what happens if you drive it without a reflash? (say, driving it to the dealership to get a reflash)
|
Quote:
voids warranty also it will run like crap and could cause problems |
you have to zip tie your bypass valve open, so it doesn't boost.
so, you are just able to limp it to the dealership. never heard of voiding the warranty, tho. |
yes it does. in the installation instruction it states it. i remember from when i installed nosweat's S/C
|
no damn gm S/C's for the 3400!? wtf!!!:(
|
they did that the eaton kits though
|
Quote:
Yes, but there is no re-flash for the Alero PCM, so you need to get a custom tune. The part number is 17800003 |
If you look in the showcase, at my car you can see what charger looks like.
|
Hmmm. My 'Ho is a 99... There are folks over there on j-body talking about doing a PCM swap for their z24s from 99 to a post-2000 year. Is this something we can do? I've done PCM swaps, but that's going to an aftermarket standalone, never to a later model year of the same car, direct drop-in.
Prolly a PITA to get this going on a 99, eh? -Brad |

Forgot to ask, so how do you get the ECU reflashed if you install yourself if you can't drive/tow it to the dealership? Do/Can you take out the ECU and bring just that? |
Had mine towed. But, it has to be a GM performance dealership so they can do the flash. You can call GM performance parts and they will give you all the info on the nearest dealership.
|
Is there a place that sells it cheaper than www.gmpartsdirect.com? I really don't like paying $300 for shipping. >_>
|
i wish i had a 2.4 now.....:(
|
can't wait to get mine :p
haha a guy over on j-body asked the same question and simply got called a jew, they all say $1700 shipped is a damn good deal for the kit Edit: Looks like CrateEngineDepot sells it for $1550 and it ends up only being $1600 shipped. Some got theirs shipped overnight for free, I guess the salespeople call you with the best quote for shipping after you order it, as that's what it says. Neato. I'm ordering mine tomorrow. |

Just finished up my install yesterday morning. It does indeed run like crap, haha. Real rough idle, goes away once you get past 1500RPMs. And it stalls. I gotta get mine towed to the dealership monday, good thing my neighbor's got a car trailer. Can't wait for when it actually runs well. :coolio: |
