these are the bulbs i want to replace but have NO idea how to do this.... at napa its a single unit with the plastic on it you have to buy they said u cant just switch the bulbs... how do u replace these??

stealthlero 03-18-2006 12:38 PM

i think they are just normal 194 bulbs, like the ones down by your feet, and you just have to take the normal bulbs out of the plastic piece and solder the new bulbs into that and that should work

Str33tRacer 03-18-2006 01:06 PM

what about the mirror lamps, are those just under the plastic piece, will that pop right off?

stealthlero 03-18-2006 01:33 PM

yup, the bulbs are just held in with a couple metal clips, just pull them out and pop the new ones right in

jonez 03-18-2006 02:24 PM

Those are 194 bulbs and are very easy to replace. Anywhere that sells bulbs will have 194 bulbs

cavaliers60 03-18-2006 02:32 PM

I just pop my 194 bulbs out and put the new ones in.... Do I have to sodder them in????? I never did....

jonez 03-18-2006 03:34 PM

nope, just pop out and replace

Str33tRacer 03-18-2006 04:21 PM

i cant get the damn bulbs outta that blue plastic!!

Str33tRacer 03-19-2006 12:52 PM

after looking at it, i dont think these are supposed to come outta the plastic

stealthlero 03-19-2006 01:16 PM

as far as i know, thats the only way that the lights will work once you put them back in, you need the blue plastic, im not 100% sure but thats what a buddy of mine had to do when he did his dome lights

cruisinalero 03-19-2006 05:41 PM

yes it can be done...the wires coming from the existing bulb have to be broken off the blue plastic...then just bend the new leads off the new bulbs and what i did was just soldered them into place...

If you go to AutoZone, they have separate holders in the electrical section that you can buy and just put 194 bulbs in.

Sorry to jack your thread Str33tRacer , but am I the only one here that doesn't have floor courtesy lamps? This must be a year to year thing, I have an 02 GL V6.

Satsuriku 03-21-2006 10:07 AM

you should have them then.

take a look under your dash to your left. there should be a bracket thats in a small hole you can twist and remove, maybe you have dead bulbs?

02_Silver_Ho 03-21-2006 10:16 AM

I looked when I swapped all my other interior bulbs for LED bulbs, but maybe not hard enough. I'll look after work, not like I really need them because the LED bulbs in the dome and RV mirror are so damn bright already..Thanks

yeah i don't seem to have floor curtosy lights as well..... i have a 2001. i'm going to check that out tonight as well....

cherrington17 03-21-2006 11:50 AM

i definitely don't have floor courtesy lights...

apparently the maker of the car was too cheap to pay for that package. :glare:

02_Silver_Ho 03-21-2006 12:19 PM

Just a hunch, but aren't there some people out there with aleros that don't have the rear view mirror map lights? If that were the case, maybe some aleros come with only dome and map lights (like mine), while others come with dome and courtesy (no map lights). The only reason I think of this is that when I look at new car stickers at a dealer or something, I often see things such as maplights and courtesy lights mentioned in the details....Or maybe I'm just overworked today..I need a beer :beerchug:
