amp on/off

how do i hook up my amp to the Remote turn on/power antenna wire so that the amp turns on and off when the radio does?

You can run the remote wire directly to the radio "remote" and splice or you can wrap it around a fork of the fuse for the radio in the fuse panel.

You got an aftermarket radio or stock?

AGT 09-24-2008 03:48 PM

clutch has a good point. If stock radio you can just go with the radio fuse in the panel.

I ran mine off a inline fuse to a switch I mounted in the dash by the little holder thing by your left knee :p im thinking about running it off the radio because when I turn off the car without flipping the switch off i get crazy feedback and it hurts :'( Also coming home at 11pm and then shaking every house around you isnt very polite :)

My sound system isn't done yet, but I Ran my remote wire (When I installed the deck) to the one coming out of the deck.

I didn't know it could be done another way. haha.

Yea, if it's aftermarket you'll want to hook it up to the red wire going to the deck, or the designated "remote" wire, which is usually blue. Some decks turn the sub amp off via an option built in, which is when you'd want to use the designated remote wire for sure.

If you're using a stock deck I usually tap into the harness behind it.. take a tester (one bought for this task, or an LED/resistor or something that runs on 12v), ground out on side of it, poke the lead into the hole on the harness of wires that look probable (usually either thicker ones, or red/yellow, or both). Turn the key to accessory and if your tester lights up, use that wire, if it doesn't, keep testing wires. Make sure the tester goes off when the key is turned off, otherwise your amp will be on all the time.

Never done the fuse thing before.. but if you do just make sure the fuse loses power when the key is off.

^ If done the wrong way and you route to a constant 12v wire, your battery will die in no time.

just pull the radio out and tap onto the red power wire and run it to ur amp turn on that simple

idk where the fuel pump wires are but in a taurus i spliced in into the fuel pump switched in the trunk, that saved about 10 feet of wire.

Colllin 09-27-2008 01:55 PM

I'm a bit confused can someone tell me in more detail how to run the wire through the fuse access and one more thing where is the best place to hid the wires?
