New Belt... Squeals

Just like the title says, I bought a new belt for my ho because the old one shredded. Well, after going to the store, getting the stock replacement belt, it was too long... so I got one that was about 1/2in shorter. Worked fined, tightened fine, but the car squealed. I figured it was normal for a new belt to squeal till it got broke in. Well, that was a month ago and it still squeals. Any ideas what might be happening?

This is just my humble experience but, I seriously think your belt is too tight. I know some people that have had the same problem, and letting it "run" never fixed it and eventually they lost the belt again.
Again, this is just my experience.

Probably worked itself lose and needs to be retightened. Or you hae a bad bearing in something that is squeeking.

OK first off how did you get the wrong belt size?

Second, you can have many reasons to having funky sounds in the belt area like:
water pump
power steering pully
ac compressor clutch
tensioner is shot

Trouble shooting

water pump:
ticking/squealing sounds
crap on the underside of your hood right above the belt area
loosing coolant

A/C compressor clutch:
Does the sound stop when you put on your AC or heat?

Belt tensioner:
Take your belt off and see of there is exessive play
take it off, inspect for cracks or breaks anywhere on it.

PS pully:
Dunno, never had a problem to know what to look for, sorry

This is based on the fact that you have a 3400, if not i dunno and disregard my post lol

I don't know why I got the wrong belt. It was the RIGHT belt, just too long. I have no idea what that means to the problem. Maybe the belts too tight? It only squeals when I first give it gas then stops after about 2 or 3 seconds. I can't figure it out. Thinking maybe the tensioner is going bad?

OK, I am assuming you have the TC since that is what is in your sig.

The water pump has no bearing on the serp belt since it is driven off the timing chain., same with the tensioners.

If the belt is squealing then it is probably slipping on some pulley. Make absolutely sure that it is tight. After the initial install the belt can still become loose after it is used for a bit, things stretch when they get warm

I have the same problem. No squeal at idle but when I give it gas it squeals, seems to go away when the car is warmed up.
I put a new belt, new tensioner, new idler pulley and still there but not as bad???
