Ebrake removal Help

How do I take off the ebrake handle. Not the whole thing, just that FUGLY plastic piece. I found a carbon fiber ebrake handle and book that i want to go with the interior trim pieces. But I cannot seem to yank the old handle off.

Damn. I wanted to replace mine too, as my button is broke, locks the e-brake on if you pull it. Difficult to disengage (took 20 mins of fiddling).

Plus mine was cracked.. a little wear on it i didnt like also. But the automatic fits perfectly off a 2003. the shift and ets trim fits in it and everything. That cost 40$.
