HID and tails

Hi all,

I already introduced myself in the showcase section and I have two questions:

- HID lights ; I have the euro headlights and besides the fact that I have clear corners already and a fixed orange lens within the headlight for the turnsignals they are pretty the same. Starting from the middle to the side: High beams on the very inside, then the Low beams, then the turnsignals and on the corners, the sidemarkers.

The only onther thing is that is has H7 bulbs in it, instead of the 9006 you all probably have.

I was wondering, if I were to put some HID in (4300K) these headlights, won't I blind oncomers?
I mean, the lens cutoff and distortion is huge, these lenses are really terrible as it comes to output.

Any of you have experience with this?

alos, How much work would it be to have the wiring set up to USA specs? So with the amber DRL's and all.

- My tails lights are the same as yours, only I don't have double lights on each side. Only the the outer lights are the lights/brake lights. The inner lights are FOG lights.

How can I have AND double tail lights and fog lights? I really like the look of them but I have to keep my foglights working, as all cars have to have them from 2006 and up!

Or don't you need FOG lights on the back of your car in the USA?

Thanks so much in advance!

i think for the tails all you should have to do is splice the wires for the inners into the ones for the outters, seems like a simple fix

Thanks for your reply!

I'll check if the sockets has the 5W and 21W hook up and I will use the 5W then. The 21W will stay connected to the FOG light switch.

If I do not have that specific dual filament socket, I need to get me some.
Beside orignal,. are there any others that might fit? From other cars I mean.

thanks so much!

In Europe we do have other lightning requirements as you have in the USA.

I want my car to meet somewhere in the middle, thats all.

our tail lights only work with the two outer bulbs as well, with you having the inners wired as fog lights, you are already ahead of us... a few members on here have spliced the wires on their inners to make them work for everything...

Thanks! So If I splice them, they'll continue to work for everything? Do I need to put in an extra fuse?

I have never had a prob with my hid's... noone has flashed me and i have met many cops with no incident.

does your car have any auto lamps at all?? might just be the relay to give you drl.. #22 under the hood, providing all the wiring is there.

I think what you mean by "fog lights" is our "running lights", all four should be on in the back as your tail lights, outers are brake lights.

Thanks!

fog lights are really only to be used during fog they are 21W and are spearately switched on the dash.

Other then that, they don't work with anything else.

I wanna change that so that they emit 5W light when DRL is turned on and 21 when the FOG switch is on.

My car does have autolamps already. they automatically switch on and stay for a short while after car is parked and turned off.
Does that work good with HIDs'? Or shall I turn it off?

X2, never had any problem at all.

Autolamps are fine to run with HID, you just can't run DRL with them. oh and over here the DRL isn't fogs or amber, its the actual lights (either low or high depending on the year) running at half power.

AS for the tails, the only thing i've ever heard done to them, and have done, is running them so all 4 light up when you step on the brakes. Stock only the outer 2 light up when brakes are applied. All it is is splicing in wires from the third brake light to the inner bulb sickets, i didn't use a fuse since it is still fused on the same circuit as the other tail lights.

Welcome to US designed headlights. The cutoff is actually fairly good compared to some of the other cars they sell here. They HIDs really aren't that bad. I've never had another driver flash their lights at me like I had my main beams on.

You must be confusing that with the Intrigue. The Alero only has the main beams as the DRL for 1999-2001? and the dipped beams for DRL in 2002-2004.

We are not required to have fog lights hear in the USA. In order to still retain the function of your fog lights and have the 5w lights, you will have to add the wiring to them. You most likely already have a 21/5W bulb in there like we do in the USA.
