tensioner pulley
I am having issues with putting my belt back on. What's the best way to do this? Fast answers would be greatly because I am sitting here waiting.

Line the belt up on all pulleys except the 3 inch idler next to the alternator pulley. Take up the slack in the belt and hold the belt with your right hand on the outside of that top idler. Hold the tensioner to the right with the proper tool, and slip the belt under that topmost idler (for V6).

Here's where I'm screwed "proper tool", I'm a hour away from any shop. And my cars been sitting for 3 weeks, I really want to get this done. Without have to go and pick up this "proper tool".

Then you have to have a way to deflect the tensioner to the right, I think a 3/8 square drive for sockets will fit. I'll have to check it on my car, because my own tool is 1200 miles away at this time, too. Meanwhile, see what you can improvise, but whatever you use should be the correct size, because aluminum strips easily

I don't have a 3/8s. I only have a 5/8s. I literally have no tools here.

If it's the V6, you really need a serpentine belt tool to get in there. I recommend the Lisle ratcheting serpentine belt tool.

So. I have no clue. I got my alternator in and my belt going. But my car still died. and when doing so my headlights started blinking on and off while alternating. And my stereo dosent work. My trunk won't open. And I can unlock doors but I can't lock them.

I would say there is a wire that didn't get hooked up to the new alternator to supply enough voltage to keep it going. As for the belt I have been able to pull it by hand and slip it on at the water pump but you need to pull pretty hard. I have changed mine twice like that without a tool.

A 3/8 drive breaker bar works well. I have a short one, it only comes up to even with the alternator pulley.
I did buy a tool that everybody is taking about, took all of 3 seconds to put the belt back on after the water pump swap. Litterly 3 seconds
I carry a small toolbox in the car and a tool kit that I bought at Advance Auto. If I break down, I can fix the car on the spot. It's happened a few times. The worst was the #3 plug popping out, with my son in the car, on a holiday. Lucky I broke down and was able to limp to an auto parts store

yeah i was told a breaker bar works too, but i picked up a kit, so now i have the proper tool. but i am still having issues with my car. i thought it was the alternator but i changed that and i am still having issues. and i did hook the new one up right.

is your battery good? if your battery doesnt hold a charge then your pretty much wasting time with a new alternator.

Try putting a good full charge on youre battery with a charger then see what happens. If you still have the same problem get a new battery.
