mine used to do same thing, but it only did it when it was cold. It seemed to take longer for it to shift from 1st gear into 2nd when just taking it easy on the gas.

Mine only does that when it is cold outside right after I first start up. Just for the first couple of stop signs in the nieghborhood, then goes away after the tranny and engine heat up a little.

I occasionally have the same problem, but it comes and goes. Only one time did I decide I had to take it home because it was doing it so badly. It "slips" when trying to downshift into first gear when this normally happens. But it also sometimes happens from a stop, when it already is in first gear... so I'm not sure what the culprit is and the stealership told me nothing was wrong (big surprise).

My car has always had a long first gear since I bought it, but I figured it was normal. I just wasn't used to it. I had a 92 sunbird before this and it drove alot different.
