it started yesterday, i did so a search and i have found nothing quite like it. when i press the brake pedal there is a kind of creeking, even when im stopped. it sounded at first like there was sonething just rubbing on the inside. i opened my door while i was parked, and the creek was really loud and obnoxous. i figure its either the caliper or its something to do with the master cylinder. also when i press the brake pedal when parked the rpm's bog down a little. i have the 2.4 usually just around 700 rmp at idle, and when i press the brake pedal the rpms drop to like 400. anyone have an idea what's goin on?

Interseting. Never heard about anything like that. If the RPM's dropped when you turned the wheel (which is what I thought you said at first) it would be normal.

Sorry I can't help

I had the same the creeking noise with my 03. I took it in and the dealer replaced the rotors and brake pads (which were shot at 16k) and lubed all the parts. The noise is gone and has been since they fixed it. I hopes this gives you some idea of where to start.h

well i have a different thought behind it, but i need to find the time to get in and look. my brakes are relatively new, so i know its not them they are only like 4 months old, less than 10K miles on them. highway driving and put the pads/rotors on myself. i had now that i think of it, a grinding crunch when i stopped thursday or friday and the car has been parked for the weekend.

I bet if you replace or lube the brake hardware (which is the little pieces of metal that the pads sit in) that will take care of the problem. I read on some board the same problem with a malibu and it was fixed by replacing the caliper hardware.. Thats what I would have done if mine had not been under warranty. But the dealership just replaced everything to keep me from having to come back.

The caliper cylinder may be sticking. I think that's kind of what brsexton was saying. Replacing pads and rotors wouldn't have fixed it. I know you can get a caliper rebuild kit, but you may just want to go to your local auto store and get rebuilt ones. With your caliper as a core, I think you can get 'em for less than $50.00.

I thought thats what was wrong with mine, but the dealer said the caliper's were fine. They said it was a combo of the worn out pads and the brake hardware. Not sure which my problem was. I know it was strange. Its like one day it was fine, and the next day it was making that BAD noise. I just hope mine is fixed for good. I hate noises in my car.

spclone, do you get the noise when the car is shut off and press on the brake pedal? I just took my 02 in for the same thing i think if you answer the question with a yes. Let me know and i'll tell you what it was and what they did to it to stop.

What did they do to fix yours? From what it looks like, some people are getting different fixes for this commonn problem.

actually i took my brakes off, "reseated" the pads and greased the sliders, then used some brake cleaner and problem is gone now.
