I have had a chirping noise from my engine for a while now and I just want to fix this anoying issue. about 6 months ago it started and had my mechanic/friend put a new tensioner and belt on. The noise went away for a while but then came back and has been getting worse. I was recently told it could be a pulley but before I spend the money to replace it I wanted to see if anyone else has had the same problem.

I have had that problem at least three times. The first time it was my power steering pump leaking powersteering fluid on the pulleys. about three months later it started again. I had the idler pulley replaced twice within a year at the dealership. The last time i had it done at goodyear tires. they replaced the tensioner and idle pully with aftermarket parts. i havent had the problem for over a year and a half now. It cost me about $300 but was well worth it.

i have the problem as well... but it only happens when it's below 25 degrees or so... i'm guessin the belt is wearing out or the cold is causeing some tight spaces

I am having the same problem on my 2001 Grand Am GT, I think it is coming from the idler pulley. It is odd that it only does it when it is cold though.

Sounds like the tensioner to me. But, DO NOT replace it with an aftermarket piece! I used one at first and the car would squeal on every shift!! I replaced that one with the factory replacement and it's been smooth sailing for about 6 months or so! If you have access to a scope I'd go that route so there is no guess work! Pin-point it, and replace it!!
