Exactly how hard is it? My uncle owns a paint shop so the paint and tools is not the problem. He does painting on houses and walls so is it any different? The prices around here are F-ing rediculous. About $1500 for a standard bodykit painting. My plans are to get the Kato Kit. My other Question with the kato kit is how low is it in the rear? I have a 40 series that is tucked up perfectly to the bumper. Would this be a problem??

I dont see how that is possible. I know how much it costs for material. My hood costed $225 in just material and then 3 hours labor. Came out to roughly $400.

You pay for what you get!. A good bodyshop will paint a kit for no less then 600-800 bucks w/install. Unless you know someone with the hookup.

But to Alero2k4, damn 500-800 bucks for molding kit and painting .. I dunno what kind of work they do. But mininum charge for molding in a whole kit front, rear , sides is around 1200-1500 bucks without paint price.

To str33treacer; I think the bodyshop you went to dont want to paint the kit, thats why they told you a really high price. But painting houses from cars is really different night and day difference.

damn, remind me not to move to MI. I got quotes from 5 different shops that average $500. That's for ME to do all the finish work, bring in the pieces ready to go, and they just shoot the primer and paint. I could see having to pay $1,000 if I had them do all the prep and spot repairs.

^ word. I got a quote on repainting my rear bumper and it was $300 for stripping, re-prep, prime, and paint. I would guess that getting a bodykit painted (assuming you already fitted it and prepped it) should be just shy of $600.

i've brought a lot of work to my body shop so they give me quite a good deal, plus its excellent work. My car's actually in the body shop getting some fenders molded and my front bumper repainted (long story).

house painting is nothing like painting a car unless you like the roller look
1,500 is not that bad that is a good price if it includes mounting the kit preping painting labor material cost,
you get what ya pay for bottom line you want cheap it will look cheap you want nice you willpay for nice
nothing in this poopty trade is cheap the trade that i have chosen is not a easy one, and take years of experience to make any kind of money
so my advice shop around get the better price ask around too about the shops work

If you live near a big city, there's bound to be a local car forum (here in Buffalo, there's 3 pretty big ones...). When you find one, ask them what shops they would recommend.

i live close to minneapolis and the prices kill me. It wouldnt be a roller because he uses a sprayer as well.... and the 1200 price is just for painting it.... no install molding or fitting

a house paint sprayer is totally different than a HVLP sprayer... first off your are spraying latex paint... which has the consistancy of a large orgasm... so that tip is useless... spraying stain is like spraying water... if you do spray it yourself go to the hardware store and spend 80$ on a gravity feed high volume low pressure spray gun... go rent a compressor if you have no access to one... prep your garage with a fan and a filter in the door and lots of lights... if you don't have access to a paint booth... ask around for tips on prepping... follow the mixing instructions for the activator and stuff... make sure you clean the gun well after each use and especially after each clearcoat... test spray the gun on something and make sure the width of the spray is good for you and you aren't putting more paint and clear into the air than you are onto the car... paint the pieces... 3 coats of base should be fine... 3 coats of clear should be ok... it's not rocket science... just test it on somehting else so you are comfortable spraying... this eclipse (i've posted before)... was my first attempt at painting a car... i did it in a garage... it turned out well...

oh... and you can either do the two stage... base coat then clear coat... or you can do acrylic enamel... clear and color in one... the 2 stage looks better IMO though... it just takes longer to do and it's more difficult...

krylon GOOD ONE not. I just realized by dad has bought a spray gun for repraying cars and we have a compressor for it. Its just hitting me that i can do it myself its just i might F it up big time, thats why i was looking to my uncle because he spends alot of time painting, not nesiicarily cars but he knows alot more than me. If i go to a car paint store thats local that has matches exact paint for me before, i should be able to get by with what 2 gallons? just a guess and the same with clear coat? i mean ive reprayed pannels from bondo and rust repair but never a full kit
