Ok i posted about this not very long ago. :Noooo: When i try to start my car it shuts off everything. When i have the key in the acc spot everything works (lights, windows, sunroof, door locks) But when i try to start the car it all stops working and it's like the car shuts off all power to everything. The way i solve this is by unconnecting the battery and then reconecting it, again when i have my key in the acc spot everything works..........until i try to turn it on. Any ideas on what is wrong with it.

sounds like it might be the passlock system or whatever. there's some good information on this, but i don't think anyone is 100% sure of why it happens.

ok... so you're saying that you are sitting there with your car not running... you have the acc on the ignition and your listening to music... you turn the key to start to start the engine and the radio goes off... evveryhting goes off... i would imagine that's what everyone's does... (it's what mine does) so the battery is turning over the engine and not running all the crap...

I talk to a GM mechanic because I am having some issues also, and he said the tumbler in our cars seems to wear out fast and he has replaced several of them, so I don't know but that would be one thing to look into.

Know what I think it is. Maybe your car battery isnt powerful enough to support it all at one time. It can either run the car or the essentials. Check into it.

try the waiting 10 minutes thing. that's the best idea i have. then, you're probably going to need to get a new lock cylinder, if it's the tumblers. but like i said, i'm not an expert on this stuff.

Security lock out.............I bet you anything when you have the key in the "on" position the orange security light is flashing.............let it sit for 10 minutes until the light turns solid (stops flashing) then shut car off then start car up.......if this problem continues, you will have to replace your key cylinder (about $400)....MANY N-bodies have this problem

If the passlock thing doesn't work try the starter cylenoid(sp???). My buddy had a Neon that did the exact same thing and it was a bad cylenoid, so they replaced it and voila! It was exactly the same, power and then you turn the key and you get NOTHING, no power at all. Disconnect and reconnect battery and repeat. Good luck!

You guys are gonna laugh.
I shoulda checked this first but, it was a bad connection on the - (negative) side. I wasn't grounded good so when i tried to crank the car, the engine shaking made it lose connection and cut off the power. I took off that whole part (rubber, metal circular plate, and screw) sanded the metal plate down a little, and put a new screw in. Reconnected it, tightened it up and ta-dow she cranked right up, no problems.
But i am glad i know about the passlock crap now

Ok sorry to bring this topic back to life but.....
It IS stil starting but, it takes it a long time, I have to hold the key all the way over for about 5-7 seconds instead of 2-3. Im afraid it's gonna leave me stranded somewhere someday. When i move my ground (negative) wire to my battery and move it around it starts just fine, and a couple times after that (hence i said earlier that i thought the problem was solved) But when i tried startin it up today it was a delayed start
Any way to make the connection better...........for good

You may need a new battery. That happened to me because the post was bad on the battery.

there is also a chance that the battery has a cracked cell in it.
