auto interior light problem

Ok I brought this up before and wasn't to specific so maybe this go around will be a little better :thumbsup:

My interior lights that are suppose to come on at night don't. I scanned the wiring diagram from haynes's. What I was wondering is the wire I have marked the one causing problems and does anyone know where it runs? Is it the grey wire running from the passenger side fuse box?

The grey wire has nothing to do with the dome light. Check for power to the dome by testing the Orange wire.I believe the dome has its own timer in it as when you open the door the light will shut off by itself after a short time. You only have 3 wires to the dome. Power,ground & the wire to the door.
The auto dimmer in the dome may be shot.

The dome light works fine the lights that don't work are my gauge lights, heater, drive shifter area, and the cubby hole. They're suppose to come on when the exterior lights come on. I blew the fuse a couple of times but it's not blown now.

Okay, will look further. The Grey wire runs from the Inst panel dimmer switch

Thanks I have a bigger pic of the whole diagram if needed. I thought it might be the one on the dimmer switch then I thought the fuse then I got confused :unsure: ^_^

Pull the dimmer from the Inst Panel & check for power at the Grey wire into the dimmer & also the Yellow wire for power.Those 2 wires are fused. You may have a bad dimmer switch. I have a GM manual & looked at the schematics from there.

Ok the wires are fine in the dimmer switch. I did forget to mention something stupid I did though when the fuse blew I went to grab a 10 but accidently put a 15 in and that's when when the other fuse stopped blowing. could it have effected something else?

Well if You have power to the dimmer switch,the grey wire that comes out of the dimmer supplys power to the dash & if no power from the grey then it sounds like a bad dimmer. A bigger fuse than what is called for only will cause more problems like burnt wires. Did You install an aftermarket radio or something else when this started to happen? Which fuse is it that is blowing?

I went to the junkyard and got a new dimmer and replaced that and still no luck. maybe that was a bad one too? I did install and aftermarket but that was months before but I did put those blue tiburon leds in my gauge cluster and the problem started shortly after. all the lights went then I replaced the fuse and that lasted a minute or 2 then burnt. then I accidently put that 15 in and then nothing happened after that no lights no blown fuse. the fuse is the INST LPS fuse it's in the top right corner on the passenger side.

This happened to a friend's car once, but it was a FORD. He replaced a blown fuse with the wrong fuse and it burnt out all of the light in his gauge cluster and dash board. Check a couple of the light and see if this happened to you.

Ok I just ran out and checked the bulbs and they're fine. I checked the grey wires from each bulb and I get nothing from them so it seems to be in the wires somewhere?

Look at page 12-38 in theHaynes manual.After the lamp Dimmer Module the Grey wire goes to the Inst Panel Fuse. The other side of the fuse then goes to the Inst. Panel lights. Your Inst. Panel Fuse is blowing. So You changed the Dimmer with no results & You said that You have power at the GREY wire coming out of the Dimmer...so that is fine. The problem is after the fuse which powers the Inst. cluster.Sounds to me like the blue tiburon leds may be causing the problem. try disconnecting them & go from there. Electrical shorts are a pain & a lot of work diagnosing, but since you said the problem started when You installed the blue tiburon leds...that is the most logical problem causing the short.
