Components are the way to go up front to take the place of 4x6's. Way better sound quality. Fusion is a good brand that carrys the plates.

Well the main difference is that coax have the tweeter attached to the woofer in some way. where as with componets the tweeter is completly seperate giving you the ability to mount it in a better posistion. This will allow you to get better imaging, therefore giving you a better sound. both have potential for "deep bass", but neither will give you the deep bass you want. for that you neeed a sub.

as for which is cheaper, Id say most likely the coax will be cheaper, but that is probably not true in all cases.

the alpines should do just fine.

It all comes down to what sounds good to you. I suggest you hop in as many cars as possible with aftermarket systems and configuarionts if you want to get an idea of what you like. or if you have the time and money start swaping speakers.

Dido, a good install with a set of coaxial can sound very appealing. In most cases, the components will sound better. Just be aware that components require about double the wattage. If your expecting bass from either, then a sound deadener is a must. Not only will it reduce vibrations, but it will enhance the bass. At the least, place a one foot patch behind the speaker.
If you are looking for a reasonable set of speakers that have the ease of installation that coaxials do, but superior sound, then try out hybrids. They are speakers mounted like a coaxial but have crossovers and higher grade material. CDT and focal make some very nice ones. For cheaper prices look toward JL or Eclipse. I use to love the Eclipse point source, but stay away from last years thee way point source. The tweeter was very off axis. I have been told the new 2006 line has removed the three way for that reason.
