2.4 Rebuild
Well, since I replaced the 2.4L in my Alero, I now have the old one to work with. (It runs, but prob. has bad main bearings. I have access to a new crankshaft it the old one is bad.).
I'm just wondering what I could add for significant performance increase without spending above $300 on extras.
I have lots of auto recyclers to choose from, so if there are any really good 2.3 parts, that might work.
Any ideas?

I'd tear it apart and check and see if there was any other damage besides to the crank. If everything looks good, clean it all up before putting everything back together. As far as performance goes, you could go with a 2.3 High Output intake manifold, cold air intake, a header and a full header-back exhaust with a high flow cat.

also get the 2.3 secret cams, 2.3 HO TB and then have at least a mild polish and port job to the head and you will get some good gains

I'm planning on the HO manifold, secret cams, and CAI. What header and what cat-back exhaust would be best? (Price/best value is important)

either pacesetter, OBX, or rksport. for cat back i would say either a custom exhaust or borla. cause SLP sounds like crap on a 2.4

With price in mind, I'd go with the pacesetter header and a custom exhaust. Instead of making just the cat-back part of the exhaust, make it from the header-back. If you're serious about the secret cams and port and polished head, I'd go with 2.5" exhaust piping. If you only plan on the cams, it may be better to go with 2.25". If you get the pacesetter header, the B-pipe steps down to the stock 2" exhaust at the end. Just cut that part off and start with the new piping, go into a high flow cat, through a resonator and then over the axle to the muffler. Make sure the muffler and resonator are straight through for maximum flow.

Nothing anymore Just easier to say "secret cams" than "1995 LO intake cam and pre-1995 LO exhaust cam".

Which pacesetter header? Would it be worth it to spend $100 more to get the ceramic-coated header? And how do you know which highflow converter and which resonator to get?-is that an issue? Thanks, this has helped a lot.

Also, I can use my old lifters with the new cam, right? I don't need to use the 2.3L lifters?

So now I need to start gettting all the pieces together: cams, manifold, exhaust, other gaskets, CAI. This is going to be a lot of fun, not.

Thanks. One more question, I'm assuming that these mods will bring the 2.4L up to at least the power and torque of the stock 3400, is that true? (Also, is there any difference between the $185 pacesetter ceramic headers offered by PFYC and the $260 pacesetter ceramic headers offered by AAS?)

Actually I just looked at a pic of it. I was mistaken. I thought I'd seen a different picture where the B-pipe steps down to the stock pipe size but it doedsn't. I'm not sure the diameter of the B-pipe that comes with it, but if it's not the same size as your exhaust, just cut it right after the flange that connects to the header and have a tube welded on that is the same diameter and then connect it to the exhaust.
