This may be off topic for this forum but i thought it might be helpful for anyone thinking of getting a cd player installed by circuit city.

My parents bought me a cd player and had circuit city install it. Well circuit city had to take the gear selector off to put it in...So what do they do...Broke the damn clip/pin that holds the slector on there tight. Ended up costing me 30 dollars to get fixed cause it was broke. All along i thought it was just loose and i was too lazy to tighten it .

you should be able to complain and they should pick up the bill for breaking it.

I had my CD player installed at best buy back in august 03....first guy who installed it hooked it up to the wrong power source, lost power the next day, then an experienced tech who knew what he was doing got it corrected in 5 minutes, thankfully the dumbass who first installed it only messed the power source up....in the future ill take the extra time to do electronic installs of this caliber on my own.

This is the complete opposite to what I have heard about Circuit City. I have heard they do a wonderful job. I dont think i want to take any chances with them messing a car up!

I just had a problem with Circuit City a couple weeks ago with an install.

I bought an MP3 changer off Ebay, paid Circuity City $75 to put it in.

Here's the problems:

1. The 'kid' who installed it mounted the changer in a spot in the trunk where the cable would get jammed by the trunk hinge.

2. He lost my cigarette lighter, then he found it under the shifter. (had to remove all that stuff again)

3. Forgot to give me the changer manual back with the box the changer came in.

4. The biggest problem... he broke my heater switch. (the vent-change one) I complained to the manager - He said they'd order the new heater switch and install it.

Two days later, they replaced the switch, and refunded my $75 installation fee.

Yea it apears that way... except for the hassle and annoyance of the shatty install, and the fact that if the "kid" that did it is that dumb then theres something else that he missed or did wrong...
The lesson to be learned is to do it yourself... everthing comes with instructions, and if you do it yourself you only have one person to blame..

a few years back, a buddy of mine had one of those bass cannon bazookas installed by future shop, for power and ground they wired right into the fuse panel...month later all the wiring in the trunk melted into the carpet, and melted part of the fuse panel...cant remember if they paid to have it fixed..thats when i learnt how to do all the wiring and installs myself

That doesn't just go for Circuit City...there are other places that dont know what they're doing either. My friend bought a system from a local place called Darryl's Car Audio and they broke his alarm and his bug shield. They played hookey with him for a while saying that they were ording a new bug shield, etc, but I finally convinced him to go higher up and complain....actually, they didn't break the alarm, they cut the wires to it <_<

Sadly its not even like its rocket science to put a head unit in yourself or even install an amp, just ask around if you've never done it and there are web sites online

Installation did end up being 'free'.... but when you consider the extra 3 hours it took to get it all straightened out, plus the 'aggravation factor'... I'd rather have paid the money and had it done right the first time.

However... they did do the right thing by refunding my money. Although I can't recommend them for stereo installs, they're honest at least.

I have always gone to Best Buy to have sub and amps installed. I have had installs in 4 cars, haven't had any problems. Alarms also. If you keep your reciept they will take everything out and put your stock radio back in all for free.

CC=hack jobs
I have seen numerous jobs done at different CCs and they are ALL hack jobs. I always wanted to get hired there and show them how to wire poop up the right way.

speaking of hack jobs, my friend got his cd player installed by this place called "speed of sound," and a few months later it stopped working. he tore it out to see what the problem was, and sees a tic tac box sitting under the cd player, holding it up
