Dash material Peeling (Advice Needed)

One minor problem is that the material on the dash above my steering wheel is peeling up, and i have heard that alot of other peoples have to.

I will be fixing it this weekend, but what is the best method to use, and the best product to use to make it closest to it never happeneing.

Cheapest fix:

Go to Walmart and in the art section, buy that glue in the gold bottle. ($0.88) and then pull up the vinal, just a little bit and put the glue up there, and flaten the vinal on top.

Use a decal slide (like a really thick credit card, but a credit card will not work, too thin and flimsy) and work your way down towards the windshiled. Put more under the vinal as you work your way down. Just do a little section at a time. When you're done, weight the area down with heavy items. Phone books work really well, since they will form to the dash unlike a hardback book.

It won't come out perfect, you'll still have the waves, but it's better than doing nothing. Mine was really bad, so I did this, I can't afford the $300 to $800 I was quoted to get it fixed

Would you need to remove the dash to do this or can we do it with it still in the car?

from what I recall, it's a pain in the butt to get the dash out, so I'll probably do it your way. haha

One shop told me they will take the windshiled out to fix it

That's the shop that quoted me $300.

They do good work there too, I had a windshield replaced there. I liked the shop so much I had a spoiler and fog lamps put on my Cougar

i was goin 2 say cavs im going 2 liberty 2 get a dash 4 my fiberglass if u want it just give me urs then u dont have 2 take the paint off

This past weekend I talked to a trim shop that said $100 and they do them all the time. I can't decide if it would help sell the car or if I should just give whoever I sell it to the name of the place.

You can go see my "Secret Weapon" thread and check out what I did about this problem... I actually stripped the entire dash, re-padded it, applied new vinyl, etc... I'm still not done though and I've been working on it for weeks. I've spent about 20 hours on it so far and I'm about halfway done.

You guys are gonna think I am crazy but I would get a thin tacky glue like Redog had mentioned and syringe with needle and inject a small amount into the vinyl and use the decal slide to push it around. You should use a small gauge needle to prevent any sign of tampering.

We used to do a similar method when I made vinyl signs with a local sign company.

Needles are great kids. Tell your friends haha

haha sounds like a good idea. lol there are plenty of druggies around here, maybe I can bum one off of them.. a clean one of course. haha j/k I wouldn't dare talk to one of those people...

I have kind of the same problem above my glove compartment. I bought the car like that. The dealership wouldn't fix it for me but I took some non corrosive glue that I got from home depot and shoved it down in there. It worked really well. Although I got a quote from the dealership for a shop they know, it was still $85...
