Engine Ticking
I notice a ticking when climbing hills and giving it gas...I only have a cold air intake and put 87 octane sunoco fuel. My dad has the same problem with his crown vic and the mechanic told him he thought it might be the air/fuel mixture. Do you all think I should be running higher octane fuel even if I only have an intake?

Strange I hear this...
Im noticing a lot of ticking with my recent oil change. Oil is full and same oil I used last time. Just a different filter... I used a WIX last time, and a FRAM this time.
After this oil change, Im sticking to the WIX filters.

I haven't been doing anything different to the car since I bought it.....ACDelco oil filter and same oil and weight every change....Just started noticing the ticking about 3 months ago and changed the oil twice since I started hearing the ticking...Does anyone think it could be the fuel octane?

Can't tell if its a valve pinging when I'm driving, but I highly doubt it...my friend has a Trans Am and he had valve ticking and it doesnt quite sound the same, but his engine is fully worked so I couldnt hear the ticking in his car when we were out riding around, only at idle. I listened to my car at idle and I couldnt hear any pinging....^^^he is probably right, I should just take it to a mechanic...put 30,000 miles on my car so far and this is the first problem, so I think I'm doing pretty good so far...first reliable car!

if its pinging it might just be bad gas or it could be your a/f mix. check your upstream O2 sensor. if its ticking, its probably just lifter tick which is ridiculously common.
