Sunroof Water Leak, Wet fuses etc etc

So there are a lot of people with water leaks and I know there are some diagnostics about it but just wanted to throw my .02 in.

So after about 30 dollars in fuses I dropped my headliner a bit and messed with all the wires, taped everything down tight etc etc and poof! working sunroof, however a week later it blew the fuse again. so after much swearing i said f it for a while.

I was out going to lunch one day, and I noticed the top of my leg was wet so I was like wtf, pulled the trim off the driver side a pillar trim, and there was a puddle of water sitting in the top of it. Reached my finger inside the headliner and it was wet lol sorry. anyway about another week went by... somedays the sunroof worked, some it didnt.

so my dad was up from atlanta, and we were talking about it so we decide to tryand figure where the water was gettin in from, so we opened the roof, he took a straw and tried to spit water from a cup into the drain tube above the driver side...well...no water went down the tube at all, it immediately started flowing into the trough...about 5 minutes later...pull off trim piece..wet headliner, wet trim piece etc etc. So we tried some wire, canned air etc etc and could not get water to flow through it.

So, does anyone know the procedure to clean it with compressed air? I read about blowing with a compressor, but you could blow off the nipples off the tube.

The other great thing is the wonderful design by gm, where if water backs up, it leaks into your car, and happens to dribble on all of your fuses. Not to mention the potential for a ruined saggy headliner. WTF!!!!

not sure of the procedure, when my car had the problem, i took it to a body shop down the street from my house, and they blew it out for me for free.

lol the sales person told me when i bought my car that thanks to GMs awesome design they've never had a single one leak.... i knew he was lying but it was just funny when he said that

anyways it might not be a bad idea to take out the headliner and clean it out before it gets all the mildew and junk in it

That sunroof drain design isn't just a GM thing, it's all kinds of cars....

Probably so, but you could think that they could at least seal the roof, so that if the drain backed up it wouldnt drip down into your headliner and into all the grounds and electrical connections in the roof. I went to the library and picked printed out the procedure for replacing/unclogging the drain. Looks like about a 30 minute job. According to Alldata, some of the Aleros and grand ams had the drain tubes plugged from the factory from extra seam sealer. I plan on taking the hose out this weekend and seeing what is stuck in it.
