Cleaning the engline

If i wanted to clean the engine, would i have to cover anything up or block anything from getting wet. Is it alright to spray it with a garden hose to just rinse it all off? Also is there anything else i need to know before i do it? Thanks

Also get some engine degreaser. That stuff works well.

I remember Sweet saying to use some Goo-Gone. flood engine, spray Goo-gone, wait couple minutes, then clean it. Also I remember that it is better to wash it while the engine is running.

Yea if you ahve a cone dont spray it take it off then seal the end of the intake.

or do as i did, if your to nervous to spray it get in there with some engine degreaser 4 diff sized scrub brushes and get to it, then wipe it all down with old rags.

you can do both without any problems, as long as you do it right. if you have a wai/cai, if you dont want to go through the hassle of taking it off, just take a couple of plastic bags and cover it up and tie it so its secure and dont have any leakage go through, and like someone else here said, get some automotive goo gone and spray her down, wait a couple of mins and wash it off

I sprayed it on a rag and wiped the motor down, then I started the engine.

I don't like the idea of spraying the motor with a garden hose, but it is cool to see the steam come off the headers (if you have headers) but it's also neccessary. I didn't do that part last time and something started to burn, but I fixed that before it caught fire
