Trunk Wont Open

Hello All,

Well yet another Alero problem. When I go to pop the trunk using the switch on the driver door all i get is the clicking sound of the fuses but no trunk poping. I would use my key but the trunk key hole is full of dust and shit and the key wont go in all the way ( I have tried everything to clean it out and nothing) also my keyless entry does not work anymore (its not the batterys) Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.

oh my god..

I just went through this camping..buddys G/f looked my keys in the trunk..

Your safety switch is engaged on the truck lock mechanisim.. it kinda turns your trunk into a safe, keyless entry and door trunk release is locked out/turned off only way in is the key..

Your best bet is the key.. spray the hell out of it with Wd-40..

failing that you'll have to do what I did, which took a LONG time

With a tent pole, put it through the back seat, and on the right side of the trunk top locking mechanism there is a pull handle to let yourself out of the trunk if you happen to get stuck in there.

I had to poke at it for about 30 mins, before it popped open..

It would help if you have a friend with an alero or grandam so you can take a peek at it, and help you visualize what im talking about

Im a locksmith and do this shit for a living, but this is HONESTLY the best way I could do it without ruining anything..

But if you have your keys, wd-40 the hell outta it and open it that way..
You dont wanna do it the way I had to, takes too long..

Ouch. I would try what teflone said. I'm assuming you've checked the fuses and such on the trunk lock?

hmmm teflone, sounds fun!

I'm with him on the WD40 thing. Maybe you can put some in the lock also with the little red tube they give with a can of wd40. Or maybe a simple can of compressed air (you know the thing used to remove dust inside computers) and spray the hell out of your lock in order to remove some dirt from it.

yeah, your fuses work if you can hear your trunk (listening closely) try to open...

it clicks, just dosent open.. sounds like your fuses are good if you hear something trying to happen, but DEFFINATLY check them like Anti said.. never know right ?

Yup.. great idea, just make sure that weather flap on the key hole is open.. compressed air fromn those keyboard cleaner cans work great, but get it SOAKED with wd-40, and if your good, poke something in there to get the weather flap open, and get a toe nail brush, with nail polish remover, and get the key cylinder wet with that..

But after, make sure to wash the nail polish remover off with a few squirts of wd-40..

Couldn't you just crawl in thru the backseat and flip the lock out device??

That and if your carjacked, but it then makes the car easier to break into. My alarm is wired into the trunk

Yeah it's more there if someone's stuck in the trunk. There's a few circumstances that could happen... you're working on the lock or something and you're laying in the trunk and a breeze comes by and shuts it. Not very common..... and very preventable provided you're paying attention..... but you know how some safety regulations can be.

Thanks for the idea's guys. I will try the WD40 thing this morning. I should also mention that the trunk would work then not work then work and then now not work at all. It didn't just happen at once. The fuses are all good, i even took them out and cleaned them up with a wire brush.

Haha... I could just imagine if that happened to someone in your car and you hit the trolley horn when they were stealing it...

Actually, if the back seats fold down by the two straps THAT ARE IN THE TRUNK, why would you need an emergency lock release to open the trunk from inside it if you can just get out by the back seats?
