Weird Transmission
Hey guys,
Ever since I got my Alero i always noticed that the transmission (i have the V6 engine) is acting a bit weird.
Most of the time its running smooth and quiet but sometimes (when shifting from first gear to second) i can really feel it kicking hard...
Now i took the car to alot of mechanics during the time i owned it but no one ever said anything bad about the transmission and they all said that its fine.
So what do u think? is it just the age of it? considering the fact that its been on the road since 2000 i can understand why its acting like that, but no one seems to notice a problem in it so its kinda odd to me... or maybe its just the way that the transmission acts like in all (3400?) Aleros?

My thoughts exactly, if you lost power recently it will take a while to re learn your driving/shifting habits.. 250-300 km's or so...
It acts weird, like its slipping when its re-learning you..

i dont think its a case of lost power because that happened to me and yeah it did act weird and after a while it was ok but the thing im talking about is just something that have always happened... its been acting like that ever since i got the car...
Yeah i thought about low on tranny fluid but i think the mechanics checked that too... dunno i'll have to check into that.

Its awkward to check tranny levels, for anyone..
I wouldnt trust a mechanic to check it, unless you SPECIFIALLY told him to do so..
What I mean is, if you asked him to check it.. fine..
But if you took it in, and said fix it, I doubt he would just check it half the time, then you ask, he might just say its fine, because he drove, and it shifts..
problems like your talking about are subtle, but noticible to the OWNER because were use to it, and drive it every day.... but a mechanic, would over look such subtlties easily..

If it's been doing it since you got the car then that's definitely not a good sign. Does it sometimes rev up and not go anywhere? That's what mine was doing right before I traded it in.

When i say kicking i mean u can feel like the transmission has been hit when changing the gear.
usually its doing fine ive just got back from a long drive way and the car drove very smooth all the way but sometimes it does that when shifting from first to second.
I'll try and check it sometime soon.

i know what your talking about, its normal, my s-10 did it to. from 1st to second, its just a firmer shift. my car does it to, it only does it when your taking off quite slow, am i right?

make sure you have your car in "D" and not "1" maybe that was the solution

my alero has also been doing this since i bought it, 20,000 miles ago. if i accelerate slow when i drive, it will be fine, but if the engine is up to normal tempature, and i start accelerating hard, it will start to jerk, and the engine starts to make a weird whine noise at idle. i had it flushed 15,000 miles ago, and it didnt fix it
