Stock Security System

Well,

My Alero comes with the security thing, to lock unlock car with Remote. But I don't have the remote, not even the original key (Don't ask me why, good question) Anyways, dealer said that's how he got it, so I am going to go to GM and ask for an original, but I was thinking, is it possible to get the remote from them too? Or should I save up for an Alarm System instead?

Its possible to get another remote but I think you have to have one of the original. The dealer should be able to let you know. You can buy spare remotes off the internet but they have to be programmed to be recognized by the car.

im pretty sure you can just get another one from ebay or a dealership. they have to program them through the OBD port, at least they did with mine...

Yea,

It'd be great that won't have to shell out money for a system, if it already has one. Not the greatest, but its there. Is there a way to activate it without the remote? Like locking the door, and the alarm activates so its armed. So when the key is inserted, the alarm is deactivated?

There is no content theft deterrent alarm. Just a engine immobilizer which is always active.

If you don't have the remotes, I'd say for about the same price (remote parts + Programming) you can get an alarm +keyless entry.

Yea,

That's what I'm going to do, get an alarm instead, not that much nowadays and that will be better than stock.

Out of curiosity, how does the engine immobilizer work?

Its simply a relay. When the alarm goes off it remains open.

It's the passlock system. The PCM has to receive a signal from the ignition switch to verify that the correct switch is in the start position when the motor is being started. Otherwise it won't start. So it can't be hotwired.

I got the python for like 200 bucks and it comes with the motion sensor, you can do like trunk pop, and keyless entry. Thats all I wanted it for but they do sell one with the remote start and all of that. Its' true though by the time you get back from the dealer to replace the remote and get it programmed you would have come out cheaper to just get a new on. When I bought my car all they had was the key now I got a full alarm with the keyless entry, and trunk pop. Will be adding the remote start with a different system, I'm not the type to put all my eggs in one basket if you catch my drift.
