Secret cams

Ok, I know they have been discusted a few times, and I went through a lot of it, but still...

I am toying with the idea of installing the secret cams. I was wondering if it was really worth it without any other mods (yet). Ok I have a WAI, but other than that Im stock. I'll be getting an exhaust in spring probly. But are the gains noticeable with stock parts?

Also, what is the degree of difficulty for this install for a guy that isn't really confortable with mecanical swap (I did install my WAI, short shifter, clear corners and oil changes alone thought) I just don't want to eff things up and I cant afford it to take more than a day because I will do that in the driveway and don't have a garage. I could give that to my mech, but that would imply some more cash and if I can save that, it would be cool.

Still, I concluded that 150ish $ for the cams + some $$ for gaskets was a fairly cheap mod for around 15hp gain.

I saw that ebay auction about some secret cams (those that Roether saw also with the "bad" casting number on the exhaust cams) and I was wondering if they were still the right thing to get.

thx for the follow up

it is a difficult job to do. It is doable by someone with a good mechanical experience and even some engine building experience would be helpful. Obviously if you have detailed instructions anyone could do it but the % of human error is greater.

If all you have is WAI i would not recommend this mod. because of the added lift and duration on the intake and exhaust side you need a good high intake system and exhaust.

The LD9 engine is really easy to take apart. Yet considering it has a timing chain and not a belt, you have to remove the timing chain housing (includes chain, intake and exhaust cam gears, guides, tensioner, and i think thats it OH and the crank pulley too. Listed is a brief summary but once thats done you have access to the camshaft housings, intake and exhaust. But while your at it you might as well port n polish the head to help the gains.
