head light bulbs

thinking about getting yellow headlight bulbs for my lows. any have em' ?

i got some for my high beams. i love them! ..

I think the yellow bulbs look like crap on cars.... Just my opinion..... I would just spend $15 and get the regular replacement bulbs and let them burn out a bit.... Give you the same affect. lol

And for a midnight blue alero, I can tell you that a blueish or even just WHITE looks the best

Negative. The yellow HID bulbs are yellow coated bulbs that are 3000K color temp. The brightest HID bulbs are 4300K bulbs that come as original equipment in every car that comes with HID's from the factory. They are pure white with a very small hint of blue.

water boils a 373*k or 100*c or 212*f

the kekvin scale is used more for low temps like absolute zero witch is 0*k or -460*f that is the point witch all motion stops.

Sorry, but when talking about headlights, that is wrong. The K does stand for Kelvin, but is the bulb's color temperature, not actual temperature. The higher the color temp, the more blue and purple the light becomes, and the less light it actually puts out. 4300K is the brightest HID bulb and puts out a pure white light that is very close to the color of sunlight. When getting into 6000K-8000K, the color of the light is more blue, and puts out less light, and anything above 8000K it's more of a bluish purple, and puts out even less light.

This is why I don't understand why everyone wants to get these 8000K and 10000K HID kits, other that just to look cool. They're not as bright as OEM 4300K bulbs.

Also, when talking about HID's, the bulbs don't have filaments in them. There's 2 electrodes that ignite a mixture of Xenon gas and halide salts inside a small capsule which creates an arc of light. There's no actual filament that burns, and HID bulbs actually run cooler and use less power than halogen filament bulbs.

this is about as good a look as the half-open, pop up headlights look. (sleepy eye or something?)

Yuppers. Good explaination...when you get in the higher temps some of the bulbs are actually painted, therefore leading to even more light loss.

It says that even 6000K produces 20% less light than 4100K. I have 4300K. They are not blue/purple except when you start them up or are looking at them from a distance.

That's why when you see a car coming up, at first it looks kinda blueish, but when it gets closer, it becomes white. I'll stick with my Silverstar Ultras for now. They are pretty bright! But if those HIDs burn cooler and use less electricity to run, then I might invest in them sometime soon, or when I get a new car.

That bluish color from far away also has a lot to do with the cut off shield in projectors. If you notice in this picture, right at the cut off line there is a strip of blue. A combination of the projector lens and the shape of the cut off shield bends the light towards the blue end of the spectrum and you get that nice blue cut off. That's why you get a blue flicker from a HID projector equipped vehicle coming towards you.



Yes, HID's also run cooler than regular halogen bulbs and use less power, drawing only 35 watts as apposed to 55 watts of a standard halogen low beam bulb.
