I haven't tested the older models to see whether or not the class 2 data bus in them will actually turn on the newer style radio, but it *probably* will. However you would have to change out the 32 pin connector on the older style radio with the newer 24 pin connector. Also you would have to add a class 2 data bus wire into the connector to control the power to the radio.

Probably not something most people would do, but it probably can be done.

if this could be done, i would do it....in the name of "updating" my car while keeping the stock look...I'm not looking to put a system in it like most of you are..i'm not really into that ( i don't listen to music that deems a system worthy i.e, rap ) but if i couldn't get it to work and i absolutely had to replace my h/u then i'd get an after market one. so far it looks as though it might be a wee bit too much work....

It depends on how competent you are with re-pinning connectors and interpreting the manual. I could probably do it in a half hour.

yeah...i don't know much..if anything..about re pinning connectors, so looks like i'll be sticking with my original plan of keeping the stock h/u until its unusable then replace it with something after market..

What does having great speakers have to do with "rap"? Everything sounds better.

I'm just putting out a stereo type, most people with an upgraded sound system listen to music with a lot of bass...mainly rap...i didn't mean to offend anyone, i will agree, everything does sound better, like since i put my speakers in, my rock is pretty damn clear...anyways..i'll eventually get an aftermarket h/u ( i apologize if this doesn't make any sense)

from the sounds of it, it seems to be a real pain in the butt, I don't know if anyone would be willing to do it, and if it would actually be cost effective for me. but that is something to think about, like i said im in no rush to replace my current h/u

Its just not worth it.

How much is the stock stereo you looking at getting?

An aftermarket head unit, even a cheaper $150 one will sound better than a stock GM one does, hands down.

Its not a matter of being loud or giant speakers, but sheer sound quality. Anything else is a simple byproduct to me.

Stock radios suck, unless you have a ford gt40 or subaru outback which are McIntosh equipped.

yeah, I did want to keep my car as stock as possible....but i guess I'm gonna get an aftermarket h/u, but not now not until I'm sick of the current stocker and/or if it doesn't want to play cd's....I'm lucky I can play some of my burned discs, after about 15min of having the heat blasting (it actually says that in the manual). and if i had 350 lying around, i might take you up on your offer pimpalero, but i'm poor as hell right now...hence the reason for this question, the unit i was looking at was about 40 bucks.
