Someone a while back explained what the 442 stands for, and it wasnt exactly engine displacement, but for the life of me I cant remember...

442 had a number of different meanings. it origially stook for 4barrel carberter, 4 speed tranny, and dual (2) exhaust.

442 to Oldsmobile is like R/T to dodge, SS to chevy, and SVT is to Ford.

The 442 was the Oldsmobile Musclecar. it had several meanings over the years but was still looked at as it was a performance car.

So why would someone put it on an Alero.........well for one they did an Alero 442 concept. Also to make people think it is a performnce car or something.

But putting 442 on an Alero is like putting Type R sticker on a plain honda................RICE.

Maybe the Alero has a fart can, 3 foot spoiler, and a CAI. That seems to justify putting Type R stickers on hondas these days  lol
