HP Tuners vs. DHP
Ok I abused the search like a dirty girl, I bounced over to gagt.com, as well as, HP-Tuners and PYFC for limited info on the computer swap.
The question stands: Multi Part
A) Will the HP-Tuners package provide all the tuneability for any direction I decide to take the motor?
B) Is the base configuration whats in the stock computer or does it Start with zero and have to build the tune myself?
C) Has anyone found limitions of the HP-Tuners vs. the preprogramed DHP (since the DHP Powertuner is discontunued)?
I'm not looking to go force induction, but when I launch a headgasket or a slug, I plan on going Higher compression NA.
(Didn't search for the TPS Enhancer yet but if you have or know about it please interject on that product too.)

A. Yep.
B. You read your stock tune, save it as stock. Copy it, edit that, and flash your changes to the VCM.
C. Very robust.
TPS Enhancer, garbage. Why the hell would you want to send an incorrect throttle postion level to the VCM?

Very awesome,
Last part was the typical internet chatter, witch I gather is same said for the B&M Shift Plus seeing how the HP tuners will adjust trans points.
Thank you.

For those that want a simple plug and play adjuster on shift line pressure the ShiftPlus is good. For detailed editing of every single value pertaining to shift points, pressure, time, torque management, HPTuners is all you ever want to use.

Best place to acquire HPTuners?
And what is the system of "credits" ?

why do you insist on calling it a VCM when it is a PCM. it controls the powertrain not the whole vehicle. ECM is also incorrect because it controls more than the engine.

The drivetrain is not part of the "powertrain" which deals with engine only. The A/C and fans are not the powertrain. My vehicle speed sensor's revolutions/mile is not a powertrain component.
HPTuners regards the OBDII computer as a VCM, which is the catch-all most accurate term. You can call it an ECU, ECM, VCM, PCM, whatever floats your boat, but it's widely regarded as a VCM.

Hence the name PCM - "Powertrain Control Module"
The only other computer in these models is the BCM for handling everything else.

No, there isn't. You want an account at the HPTuners site, so you can get upgrades, buy more credits, etc. It ships with 8 credits. Each vehicle uses a certain number of credits that you can license when you connect to them to read the VCM. You can licence it by year/model too, like Cliff's is all 2000 I4 Aleros.

Vehicle Control Module (VCM)
In this context we use the term Vehicle Control Module (VCM) to mean the control module that is primarily responsible for engine and transmission operation. In some vehicles there is actually two modules, an Engine Control Module (ECM) and a Transmission Control Module (TCM). In general, the number of modules required to be read or written will be transparent to the end user or become obvious during the reading/writing process.
Generally, vehicles contain may other modules that control different aspects of the vehicles operation. At this time VCM Suite does not allow modification of any of these other modules. Some examples are:
- Body Control module (BCM)
- Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) module
- Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)
- Active Handling module
- Radio module
- Heater, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) module
- Navigation system module

I guess both you and HPTuners are wrong. GM refers to it as a PCM and it's their effing part.
Powertrain includes the engine, transmission, and all the accessories and sensors that are attached to them to make them function. That's why the speed sensor, the A/C shutoff by speed control, and the cooling fan on/off/duration are controlled by it.
Unless you're referring specifically to something with 4-bangers with manual trans. Then you're off the hook.

Powertrain = Engine
Drivetrain = Transmission
HPTuners calls it a VCM, I call it a VCM. Who cares.

Powertrain = engine/transmission combined. If you don't care, then why are you so adamant about calling it a VCM just because the retards at HPTuners do?
Drivetrain= transmission, driveshaft, and differential (if they are present/applicable).
Here's a big fat "whatever" for you both.

HPT just wants a catch-all for the product name. When I scan the STS it actually has to do it in two stages, one for the ECM, and then for the TCM. The Alero does it in one.
