N/A Upgrades

I don't know who has what (i know who some of the 3400 turbo guys are) but not the N/A, besides redog, and jackal.

I was wondering... If my engine was to ever fail, and i wanted to rebuild it. Being a member, if i had the money/extra car at the time, i'd replace with performance parts.

Is it better to piece meal parts from a bunch of different venders, or just invest in the MMS 3400 upgrade (stage 2 most likely) and if you going to go that far... what else would be required (besides exhaust/headers, afterwards)

lastly... I just use MMS as a reference, since they have everything listed on one page...

Kit includes:
-MMS Stage 2 heads
-MMS Stage 2 cam
-MMS Complete heads and cam install kit
-MMS ported intake manifolds
-MMS Stage 2 PCM
-MMS 180 t-stat
-MMS 36lb injector and harness kit
-MMS chromemoly pushrods

Is that really a good deal?($2649.99) I'm sure i could get slightly used parts from someone parting out, at a much lower cost, but I know nothing about price, whats required, or even quality/make of parts....

this is more of just a thread so i know what kind of investment i might be looking at. Chances are... i'd probably not even do it... but its good to know what your options are... right?

yes, I think you could piece together your own stuff for cheaper, plus I would order for wot-tech, i think they are better.......

and if you do piece together, i guarantee one or more member would be willing to tell you good prices and help you piece together, I always am willing to help if somebody PMs me.....

dont buy from him. he's like a box of chocolates...buy from ben! and you would probably want to do a 3500 top end swap (manifolds and heads).

Just check out his store on 60degreev6.com ... which is what Kwhauck was refering to with "Wot-Tech." They have a lot of good stuff and a lot of options to go along with them ... plus the prices are pretty resonable.

If I were to do my setup over again I would definitely have gone with 3500 heads. Other than that I would again vouch for Ben and then question whether milzy has upgraded valve train included in his cam package. With that stage 2 cam you would need custom length pushrods and Comp valve springs, both of which are included with Ben's cams for an extra price. Just an FYI the motor will almost have to be removed to change the cam, I have heard of people doing it in the car but they say it would be faster to pull the whole thing out so you can get at the timing cover easier.

thats what i was referring to. If something dies, whats my "replace w/ performance" cost, so i can keep that in mind, for when i get the "shop with OEM" cost.

just an mental note kinda thing.

Keep in mind that tuning will be necessary with the stage 2 cam.

Best bet, buy a GM bottom end, and put on upgraded heads, intakes, and a new cam.

Then you'll have a new bottom end that will go for another 150K miles or more and you'll have a 24,000 mile warranty too

This is my plan

As for tuning of the cam, Just get the cam, lifters, rods, springs, and rockers from Ben over at WOT and buy a new PCM from him.

You should check out www.60degreev6.com

Ken I would check junkyards for low mileage short blocks, The one i got as a replacement was from a friend who found it in a jyard with 10k on it for $250. Hell of a better deal than new OEM. Plus it was already broken in for me. If I was going to spend that kind of dough on a bottom end it would be a full build with high comp pistons, shot peened crank and modded 350 SBC rods, of course with ARP studs. All that would come close to the ass rapage GM would get you on a new one.
