Oil Filter & Coolant
So the oil filter on the LD9 is, according to ACDelco, a PF46. I have to pick up a filter and coolant for tomorrow night. What brand filter should I use?
Also how much coolant do I need to buy? From searching it looks like the system holds around 4.5L, is that right? I'll either buy 50/50 of that amount, or all coolant of half that amount.

I always use the ACDelco filters. They are considered a premium filter.
Coolant? not using Dexcool? If doing coolant, buy the straight stuff and mix it yourself

if i remember right, the 50/50 stuff is usually like a dollar less then the pure stuff. so why bother? just get all coolant and add your own water.

I bought the K&N once and the SOB leaked. didn't give a good seal on the block.
For $11 for an oil filter, I'd expect more
Mobil 1, if I'm not going to pay $11 for a filter, why pay $12
Used Bosch plugs and wipers, both suck, not risking that with the oil filter
STP, never used, no comment
Fram, never heard good thing about them, but Scott likes them, becasue he like "grippy things"

Im actually using a fram right now just to try it out....no leaks or anything. And that grip on the end of the filter makes it easier to get off, pretty cool. I always hand tighten the filter and loosen it with my hand.....and with the regular filters i gotta wipe my hands good so i can grip them.....not with the fram though Im just gonna switch back to AC delco cause they are cheaper

I dunno I read in some other threads on here about FRAM's quality being bad, like they use cardboard and paper, lol.
I bought the AC Delco PF46 and 3.78 liters of DexCool.

hahahaha And yea.....i know you should always hand tighten, but there are a lot of people out there who tighten them pretty damn hard! I changed the oil in my sisters 07 altima, the dealer changed it before me.....and let me just tell you that was the hardest oil filter ive ever taken off. Another reason i hate going to the dealership to have work done

Most of the oil filters are made by the same company anyways. The ACDelco filter usually does have a superior anti drainback valve though. And indeed the Fram has cardboard ends holding the filter media together while most others are metal. I just use a STP filter in my Alero. The filter for the Ecotec is about as simple as it gets as it's a cartridge style.
Oh, and Bosch (ICON) wipers FTW. Had them for 3 years so far.

icon? are those the ones that form to your windshield? I bought a set a few months ago....LOVE EM! Before i had these, i had regular bosch wiper blades, they broke within a year, before them i had rain-x ones....broke in about 1 1/2-2 years. But the ones i have now are great, best wiper blades i've ever had.....it brings a tear to my eye

i had them for about 8 months on my old car and they were the worst blades i ever bought. i have Rain-X Latitudes on the alero and i think they're better than the Bosch

My dad put reflex's on his truck a few years ago. before the new design came out... and they're still streak free up until he sold the truck in september.
I'd love to be able to find a set.
I use Fram oil filters. It's what all my mechanic's use. haven't had a leak yet.

The main reason that fram makes the worst oil filter on the market is because fram oil filters have the least amount of filter media inside. A fram filter will become clogged sooner than any other major brand of filter.
AC delco and motorcraft both make excellent filters, and are as good or better than anything else you will find at a regular auto parts store.

I didn't care for them, they would bounce on the windshield and streak at the same time, Rain X, same story
I replaced the blades back in March when I had the wiper arms powder coated, shouldn't wear out that fast
