Power!

if you have a deck(head unit) that is rated 50x4 watts but you only put two speakers on it. will it give the two speaker 100 watts max power each or will you just loose the other 100 watts.

.same for a four channel amp (4x25), if you only put two speakers will it still be 4x25 or 2x50

u will lose the power unless the channels are bridged together and i don't know how to do that on a HU. U can on a amp pretty easily tho. wait till some of the hardcore audio guys come in like ryan and they will tell u for sure.

I'm going to say no on bridging because wouldn't that be mixing 2 channels together? And I don't know how the amps in the HU put out the power if only 2 speakers are plugged in.

To answer your question, no you will still only get the rated power from each channel of the head unit. (Good luck getting 50wrms)

Secondly, on an external amp you can bridge channels 1 & 2 and channels 3 & 4 and that will usually double your watts depending on the amp.

For example: An amp that does 25w x 4 @ 4ohms will usually do 50w x 4 @ 2ohms. If you bridge this amp it will put out 50w x 2 @ 4 ohms. Also do not bridge a HU internal amp.
