99alerogirl will become famous soon enough
can you buy those from regular auto parts stores or do you have to order them online?

Well Autozone sux. I just had to replace the alternator, again, becuase the crappy autozone one lasted only 2 years, the OEM lasted over 6.

Autozone only has the "Duralast" one. I want the Hypertech, and Summit doesn't have a listing for anything past 1995 for a hypertech

Any 60v6 should work (at least all FWD). I don't recommend them but everyone has an opinion on their coolant temp.

The colder stat allows more advance, or at least that was the reason decades ago. Hotter = efficient so if you want gas mileage, 195 is great. Running colder coolant means your heads are colder, and that slows down the exhaust gas as it exits the head more so than with the hotter stat. Thats minor but still part of the equation. On poor head design, a colder head took care of hotspots that induced pre-ignition. We don't have that problem.

Cylinder wall expansion will be slightly different from 180 to 195 but 160 to 195 would be noticable. increased cylinder wall is the side effect to this, and extra blow by.

Even tuned, a colder stat won't get as good of gas mileage, or at least anything I have done with my car on OBD1.

Are you getting the duralast new alternator? I got that one. Been on my car for 3 yrs now. I dont recommend the REMAN alternator. The new one is only 10-15 bucks more.

I own both the 3.4L DOHC and the 3400 I would think there might be a difference in the two, but im not entirely sure?!?! if their the same then Ill get me another of the thermos And then there is the issue of MPG im only guessing, but I'm sure you lose MPG when you install performance parts??

not all performance parts yield worse mpg... some greatly improve it.

3.4 DOHC is the same thing. Every stat I have seen for these 60V6s has been the same but I don't deal with iron heads so that is why I didn't include those for sure.

a colder thermostat is not a performance part. Installing a 3500 top end with headers not only improves hp over a stock 3400 motor but also gives it about 5 more mpg. unless you are racing all the time.

The Duralast thermostats are made by MotoRad if i remember correctly.

Oh, I've also had a DLG alternator on my 3400 for 5 years now with no trouble.
