Thumbs up

I have a black 2000 GLS. I really like how the Impalas look with the painted headlight assembly. My question is, how do you go about doing that, and how do i know how far back to paint them. It is too big of a f-up if i mess something up (them being pricey and difficult to get any in good shape). Close up pictures would be great. Im sure i can follow the clear corners post to take apart the assembly. Thank you once again for answering my questions...you guys are great.

so nice and no one got back to you?

heh

haven't done it myself but i'd say it can't be too hard as long as you have a steady hand and keep to detail

from Sound Xtreme's pictures in clearing the headlights

i'd assume just mask off the areas you don't want painted and then go from there

not sure what paint would work best, i'd assume it would be easiest to hand paint it all and to be cautious as long as you have a paint that'll layer on well

simply mask off what you DON'T want painted.... use hi-temp paint... and spray away... light coat, dry, light coat, dry, and so on...... very easy to do  keep modding

Here's how mine turned out. Pretty much everything dirty mentioned is how it goes.

Your going to bunny up your headlights if you mask them off. I masked my original set off and when I pulled off the tape all the reflective chrome on the light came off with the tape.

^^That's why i didn't bother to mask off the turn signal chrome. Would have been too much trouble to deal with.

I just painted the bezel like yours after I realized the tape screwed up my light.

there are all kinds of tapes, i think a laquer tape would stick well enough to the chrome and could easily be removed without removing the chrome plating on the bezel assembly.... another solution would be is use a hi-temp epoxy clear coat system on the entire bezel assembly, then mask off what you don't want painted.... i haven't tried either way, but i use to deal with these kinds of products when i worked at a well- known paint store chain..

heres mine, i used a blue kind of hobbyist tapr, from a local craft store, i had one very minor blemish from the left over residue from the tape that stayed on too long....basically as soon as the last coat of paint is dry take off the tape...dont leave it overnight like i did, and also dont try to use anything to get the residue off ,goo b gone, etc. or anything on the chrome part besides maybe a baby wipe..the chrome will peel away

thats the best close up i have so far, but if you look at the head light surrounds, try to lay the tape so it matches the curve and depth of the headlight surrounds
