leaking up front
i have a question. when i was doing my oil change i found my transmission leaking. it appears to be leaking from the passenger axle on the transmission. how hard is it to replace?

no reason it should leak, you sure it's from the pass axle?

not 100% sure, but it's wet where the axle comes out of the transmission. and it's pooling down the transmission. any ideas of where it could be coming from. is there any way to check how much fluid is in my standard transmission. i dont want to run it low

Not too sure about the 5 speed trannies and a dipstick. I wonder if it's the same as the 4t45 auto tranny.
It sounds like you have a torn CV joint. Not hard to do yourself, if you have the tools. You'll need to pull the axle. I had one of mine replaced, only cost me $150. My mech took the wheel off then pulled the axle nut and moved everything aside

Sounds more like a seal than a CV.

It's just a little involved to replace that seal because the CV shaft has to come out to replace it. I had the one on the drivers side go bad.

Theres not dipstick. Theres a plug on top to put fluid in it. It only takes 2 quarts of ATF fluid to fill the whole tranny so dont add to much.
What color is it??

Ok defenetly tranny fluid than. Its prolly that seal that Cliff mentioned. After that change your fluid and add Mobil1 Synthetic ATF and you will luv your tranny.

incase anyone one has the same problem. the leak was coming from the transmission input seal on the passenger side. i did replace it myself, and it's fairly easy. i didn't really need any special tools

It's pretty common, I went through the old service records that the previous owner gave me, and my Alero had the same problem...
