what would happen if i were to get a custom made exhaust that is just straight pipes from the cat... and how bout if i had the tips come out on both sides, right in front of the rear wheels. would this be too loud, or would it just suck? please gimme some input on this, thanks

I thought about doing this, but i have a 4 door, so.................. . I believe the decibel volume of a str8 thru exhaust would get you in trouble with the laws eventually.

If you do them infront of the rear wheels, duals that is.. Let me know on the right side how the exhaust and the plastic gas tank turns out. The left side can be done no problem.

straight pipes on a v6 actually are not that loud.

i heard a GAGT with straight pipes and i thought it sounded better than the RiceLP (slp)

It would be hard to run straight pipes out in front the rear wheels because of the frame rails. You would have to run the piping to clear the frame, this would cause some clearance issues. I wouldn't ever plan on lowering your car.

frame? our cars have frames? dint think so.

it'd be gay anyways. so just either do straights out the back, or get a muffler with dual outs.

Well if you did this then your only going to have one pipe not two unless you talking a why but then it would not be straight pipes.

the "straight pipes" i heard on a gagt werent technially straight.

he had the muffler removes and jsut had the piping split after the rear wheel to make dual outlets.

They are unibodies, but technically, there is still a frame. You know what I'm talking about, the part of the body that hangs down on each side of the car, just inboard of the door edge, or inboard of the edge where you are supposed to jack the car with the emergency jack.

yeah.. those pinch weld rails... they bend easy. Don't support jack!. Once you jack up on thoe rails with a normal jack.. you'll see indentations of the jack thingy.

Thats one place I wouldn't jack up my car unless using factory scissor jack.

My friend has a 97 Grand Am GT w/ the 3100 V6 and he has straight pipes from the cat back. It sounds mean and loud as hell but it's SO much slower because it has hardly ANY back pressure. It isn't bad when crusing and you hit it but I bet I could beat it off the line on my bicycle.

When I was putting on my Exhaust and was between taking off the old muffler and putting on the new one I ran str8 thru for a day or so...lound as hell but sounded like crap. It almost sounded like a 3.1 caviler (early 90's) but if thats what you like then meh

i have a 94 dodge shadow, 3.0l v6.... 1.5 straight pipe all the way back.... its soooo loud.

we were at the track, and this huge chevy with 3"+ exhaust kept revving up the truck to really high rpm and leaving it there (female) and we could drown her out with the shadow... it was so funny, everyone kept looking at us like "why in the hell would you bring a 94 shadow with no hood or rear hatch to the track" it was awesome.

Stright back would be best but I don't think it can be done before the wheels. At least on the right, just like everybody else said, the gas tank could be an issue.

It would look and sound pretty cool though

Think about one pipe about 2.5" back to the rear then split off to two tips

I've seen it done on a Ford Focus ZX3. I must say i did like the look, but im not sure how i'd like it on the Alero. Not to mention we're talking about a completely different car, so that doesnt give u any encouragement about how easy its going to be.
