Another project bites the dust.
Having put all the aftermarket speakers in my car except for the tweeters, because of the fact that they didn't fit in the stock location near the mirrors. Well, they fit, but they wouldn't clip into the bracket.
So I either had to return the tweeters to get ones that would fit, or modify the bracket. Well, you know what I did, out came the dremel, epoxy, and the modeling putty. No way in hell I'm gonna pass up having Infinity Kappa tweeters (these 1 inch speakers cost $100 a pair :shock: )
Now I couldn't just make the tweeter hole bigger and it would go in without a problem, oh no, I had to use the included mounting hardware that presented another problem. The flush mount hardware was way too big to fit into the sail panel that the tweeters are in, as was the surface mount hardware.
Hmm....so I used part of the flush mount and put it over the stock hole. Didn't sit well at all, didn't even give me a good surface to epoxy it to. Took out the dremel and cut off some plastic, checking as I went. Eventually I got it so the mounting hardware lined up with the raised tweeter area on the sail panel. Problem, there was a gap between the sail panel and the mid of the tweeter. Enter modeling putty.
I went around the entire tweeter mount and molded it into the sail panel. Let it cure and then out came the dremel again, but this time with the sanding drum. Cleaned it up so everything was nice and flush. Gave it a second round of putty, let it cure again, then gave it a final run with the dremel. It's perfect now.
So tommorow I'm gonna spray it with a textured spray paint, to hopefully blend the texture of the stock sail panel into the putty, and the tweeter mount. I'll do this in black, then I'll get out my airbrush and mix up the stock baby poop brown color of the sail panels and give that a spray. Then it will look virtually stock in my car, seeing as I have a tan interior, the black sail panels would probably stand out a bit.
