Spectre CAI on 3.4

Bought my G/F an early anniversary gift for her new Alero. Went on pretty easy, since the filter came with 3 different nesting gasket rings. I used the 3.5" cut a notch in it and slid it over the MAF housing, then slid the 4" (attached to the filter) over the 3.5 and tightened it down with the clamp. I had to cut out 4 notches for the MAF bolt-heads so the filter gasket would sit flush.

Sounds really cool, $27. w/ tax, and most importantly, SHE'S HAPPY! And you know what happens when the G/F is happy!!!

Gift 1 of about 22 total, including a trip 2 wknds from now! She's had the car for 6 weeks, already I have changed both rear speakers (45 min. on the first one, 5 min. on the second one today) bought her a new rim, and am halfway through fabbing mesh grills for her front airdam openings.

.....and yeah....did it all for the nookie! LOL

Looks good Tho, wouldn't that be considered a WAI, not a CAI?

I suppose it is more like WAI, but the ducting vent in the bottom of the box is still hooked up, and I'm looking at plumbing options to convert it to ram-air. Once I get only cold air piped in, I'm going to put the cover back on, or mod a box with a plexiglass lid so she can see the filter.

On mine, the top of the box has a gasket that mates up with the bottom of the hood, so only cooler air gets in. (see left front of engine compartment). I'm working on ram-air for my setup also. FYI, it's a 6.0 liter LQ9. 2005 Silverado VHO (Vortec High Output).

ram air on ours simply don't make a difference. either yank the air box out (and piping) and go full WAI (better mpg) or get the tubing and put the filter down in the fender where the stock openning is, and go full CAI (better HP)

I'm not sure I follow about putting the filter in the fender. I'm sure I can locate it closer to the fender if I remove the ducting that comes into the box. I can cut openings if necessary, but I think the filter is too large to go all the way IN the fender.

i suppose "in the fender" was bad phrasing. the standard CAI setup on our cars... the filter ends up just behind the driver's foglight. And yes, with all the stock tubing gone, there is plenty of room in there.

Sweet....thanks! I suppose I need to remove the bottom of the filter box, and the plate underneath it, and extend the filter close to where you have described. Of course, it won't be right on top where she (G/F) can see it and won't be pretty.

I had to explain something to her the other day....the difference between show and go. She gets it! She says she wants go.....LOL

Oh, you can fit all KINDS of fun toys under the hood and "inside" the fenders with a little bit of moving things around a bit.....

Case in point, my lil' slowboat Alero:

well, it all started with a CAI from Naich way back in the day, and little did he know what he started. I fit that under the hood, and then my imagination took off with me.
