Well, I'm going to get an alarm put in my new car tomorrow and I've heard some good and bad things about remote starters. Does anybody have any input as to some problems they may have had. I have already been told by my dealership to have them write down every wire they tap into incase electrical problems occur in the future.

I've had mine in for over a year and a half and everything is still working like the day it was installed. I shopped around until I found an installer that new what in th ehell he was talking about and wasn't trying to rape me on the install cost. I had a whole alarm/remote start system installed for about $140.00 or so. It took them all day to wire it up.

Here in Labrador it's weird to see a car that doesn't have one. Here a cheap one costs about $100, but if you have security or you have power locks that you want hooked up to your remote, it's gonna cost extra.......... Great addition here as the temp gets down to -50C sometimes in the winter.

Ya'll got off cheap, I paid just over 900.00 for my complete setup, and I've never had a problem either.

I had one in my last Alero, and never had a problem with it. If you are out of warranty, no worries. If you still have warranty, keep in mind GM will balme any electrical problem on it, and they usually will not even look at the problem until it is removed (trust me, I went through this already)!

pure hell, but that was my case

although it was at a franchised midas in RI

they still f***ed up my starter tho because it doesn't crank long enough most of the time, especially when it's cold. I'll have to look online for the paperwork and see if i can change it

But yeah, pure hell. I drove around a beater 88 ford escort that was falling apart for like 3 days, the guy couldn't figure out how to wire it up and get it to work with the passlock II bypass

I should have just read into it earlier and attempted it myself

edit: yay for no "bunny"

No problems with mine. Although if you have a manual they'll obviously have to disable the "put into reverse to remove key".

Mine works good.. no real problems once they found the ignition wire they needed to tap.

My alarm's still funky tho *grumble* .. once in a while it bleeps 3 times before it arms.. and then a few seconds later the alarm will trip. Gotta have that looked at eventually, but whatever.

Cost me 450.00 for my setup, including parts.

Not so cheap, the $140 was jut for th einstallation, I bought the top of the line DEI Hornet 2-way pager alarm (Almost the exact same thing as the top of the line Viper but half the cost) off of ebay, I also bought the Passlock bypass module myself. I think the alrm was a little over $200 and then 30 or 40 bucks for the passlock module.

What brand of alarm did you have installed that was so damn expensive??????

Sounds like you got ripped.......Unless it does your laundry and cooks you breakfast
