tire width??

as of right now i have my winter wheels on (stock)
and those are

215/60/R15

i have summer wheels with tires on them that are

215/45/R17

would the tire size of 245/50/R17 fit onto the rims?

225/45/R17 are closer to the overall diameter (that's what I use).

245 is just too wide for the alero, you might get it to fit but it will prob rub when a full turn is needed

umm no......I run 255s, the problem with the tire size he listed is it is way too tall. You need some 235/45/17s

245 is a goofy size because it is either almost an inch tall or short, depending on wether you get a 45 or 40 series tire.....

I had 245's on my Alero it it didn't rub anywhere.

On the subject of tire width, does anyone know if a 235/40/18 tire will safely mount on an 18 x 7" rim?

i run 235 40 17 front, 255 40 17 rear. but due to my rim offset i have to run a .75 spacer for the rim/tire combo to be flush with the fender, and i run -.5 camber in the rear for the race track so the spacer also keeps the tire off of the strut in hard corners.

Threadjacker!

Anyway, so i can get my hands on a PAIR of Pirelli tires for the rear that are a 255/45/17 and a PAIR of other tires (dont know brand name) for the fronts that are 245/45/17.

question is...
WILL THEY FIT ON THE RIMS I HAVE NOW?

THE RIMS HAVE TIRES ON THEM RIGHT NOW THAT ARE 215/45/17 ONLY THING DIFFERENT IS THE TIRE WIDTH.

I DONT CARE ABOUT IF IT RUBS JUST WANNA KNOW IF THE NEW TIRES WILL FIT ON THE RIMS

I gave you the tool to find your answers. But if you insist:

The stock tires are 25.2" overall diameter.
The rear tires will be 26" overall diameter.
The front tires will be 25.7" overall diameter.

The width difference is minimal, as is the change in overall diameter. Your speedometer and final drive ratio will be off only slightly.

Theoretically, the 255s should fit in the rear fine, and the 245s shouldn't rub as long as you don't have a stupid high offset on your rims.

+40 will work on our cars. +35 to +42 on normal rims will work. (obviously if you get something wacky like a 4 foot wide wheel, an offset that work s will be way different. lol)

I have 255/40r18 all the way around. On the front they rub a little on the fender liner turned all the way. The OSV runs have a 42 offset. On the rear I have 1" slavery to clear coilover and proper OSV spacing.
