My car is acting wierd.

Yesterday my car did not want to start so i had someone give me a jump. When he connected the cables to battery it wouldn't do anything so he moved the battery a little bit and reconnected cables and it started.

This happened about 3 weeks ago also, same thing. The battery is probably about 4 months old. I took it to 2 different places to check battery and starter. Everything came out good.

Exact same thing happened to my truck and it turned out to be starter. My truck was doing the same thing and everything came out good so I finally decided to get new starter and that was it. Could it be starter in car?

I called around for prices and one place said 461$ for everything and another place said 305$ for everything. Of ocurse 305 is better but is that about the right amount for parts and labor?

I can't keep getting stuck all the time, something needs to be fixed.Any suggestions are welcome and thanks!

by the sounds of it , you may need to clean your connections or check to see if your cables are not crimped or frailed... I had a similar prob(99w/v6) and it was the positive battery cable, it was crippled right at the bolt that connects to the battery, replaced and never had a prob since... i dont think you should need a new starter yet how many miles/year? when this happened did you notice if you were getting any power (dash light up) ?...hope this helps

I forgot to mention that I took it in and they tighten the cables and checked everything. They told me that because the battery posts sits sideways and not up that it comes loose and i have to check it. They said that it's a common problem for GM with vehicles with the battery withthe posts on the sides. I've had the car for 2 yrs and this just started happening.

Yesterday when it went out nothing powered up it was like you stuck a key in a dead car.

3 weeks ago when it did this the lights came on, radio came on it just didn't want to start.

Im not sure if anyone else has this problem, but if I have my systems on for to long even if my cars on, my battery light will come on for like ten minutes then it'll go of, this happens every now and then. Any idea .

Caps won't help for something that extreme, caps only help for the quick surges. If it's that bad, he needs a bigger alternator.

I agree, sounds like the drain is a few amps higher than the alternator puts out at engine idle speed. This means if he's not driving around and getting the rpms and charging amps up occasionally, the battery will slowly discharge.

Blueyez: if the lights all come on and when you turn the key all you hear is a click, it may be the starter, but you could need a jump. If nothing comes on at all, it's electrical. Check your negative connections as well, I have had the battery ground fray and cause intermittent engine issues, even causing it to shut down while running.
