haha I've probably read 3/4 of all the threads here already. I wasn't entirely familiar with these cars, so I read up before I bought it. I had bought a beautiful low mileage eclipse a few months ago for 9 grand and man did I get taken for a ride.. I couldn't afford another boat anchor of a car.

well its and eclipse what did you expect?
anyway...only thing you have to worry about with alero's is the hub assemblies and replace the brakes slightly more often than other cars, not a big deal...
oh and if you've got the LA1 v6 then the LIMG but not a big deal, theres plenty of write ups on it

yeah I know.. I fell for the looks and got temporarily stupid. It was flawless, but I quickly discovered it was doctored up when the trans started slipping at 80k. A part of my car life that I'll block out
Yeah LA1 I have. I'm very familiar with 'em, well this is my first 3400, but I've had more than enough 3100 and 3800's to know about the LIMs. I can deal with hubs and brakes, no prob.
Short story, I've always owned GM cars. Mostly W bodies. And I was usually fixing things. When my GA blew the intake at 140k, it was time for a new car. I started looking for another GM. Everyone gave me shit for wanting another money pit. I caved to their opinions and picked up a mitsu. That thing made me realize why I like my GM cars. Sure shit breaks or wears out, but it's usually cheap and easy to fix. They're predictable. They're dependable, no GM car has EVER left me walking, it's always started and made it home no matter what failed. They're stupidly cheap to maintain. Hell, you don't even have to maintain them and they're still great. Most stuff out there can't lay claim to any of that. I took a 2 month hiatus, but glad to be back in the GM family.

haha no you wouldn't have. it's sitting on an unfortunate dealers lot in grand forks, ND if you want it. Trans slipping at 80k, rear end kicks out over every bump even tho I replaced everything in the rear end, carfax is a effin nightmare. Wrecked 5, 6 times, I don't remember offhand, repo'd twice, frame/unibody damage. yeah.

Same here always like GM better Chrysler second & ford third always gona like American cars , i guess?
One little warning...
If you ever start you car & it doesn't start & got the security light on flashing , no worries just leave the key in ACC or ON position (without starting the engine) for 10 minutes until the security light turn off , than remove the key & put it back in & start the car.
Could be annoying after a couple times but look it up their is a few guide on how to by-pass the passlock , but lucky me i just use a can of air dust & blow air in the ignition key & clean out my key now my security light stay on but my car start everytime...
